An ecumenopolis is an easy victory as AIs are unable to keep up with ecumenopolis production power - either science or industry.

Ecus are on a different scale. You can have 10k science on an ecu, which is a death sentence to AI.AIs aren't able to keep up with the player with or without ecumenopolis right now. I am not sure why you would pinpoint ecumenopolis as the problem.
The 3rd ascension perk is late? What are you even talking about?AI hasn't been able to keep up with even a brand new player in years.
ECU is expensive enough and happens late enough in the game that it's just a win more button unless you want to put up with the endgame lag long enough to kill the FEs and crisis.
Considering how long the techs take unless you beeline, as well as getting the resources together and actually building the thing, It's pretty rare I have one by 2270, and even rarer that I have one even close to maxed out on districts and jobs. The 3rd ascension perk is late? What are you even talking about?
Bro you can have 10k science on a planet with only a single city district on it. 10k science is trivial to reach the AI just isn't playing the game correctly at all.10k science on an ecu
There's a glitch effecting some AI empires like Common Ground and Prikkiti where their colony ships have no FTL drive.TBH. AI can't keep up with anything.
Sometimes I can see quite good working empires, but sometimes AI don't even colonize worlds for some strange reason.
Most of the time AI is not better than new player. It's not bad... But not on grand admiral
Has the AI ever been able to keep up? I certainly don't remember a time it could.AIs aren't able to keep up with the player with or without ecumenopolis right now. I am not sure why you would pinpoint ecumenopolis as the problem.

I've been playing non-scaling Grand Admiral for years because the AI couldn't keep upIt isn't too long ago when Paradox added a newer easier difficulty because of the AI improvements pre-4.0
Absolutely. Some people on these forums have real short memories. AI was pretty decent in recent years! There were more than a few fantastic dev diaries about it.It isn't too long ago when Paradox added a newer easier difficulty because of the AI improvements pre-4.0
