I have five loans that I've been defaulting on for the last ten or twenty years, mainly 'cuz I can. My treasury is always empty when the loans come due and no matter what I do I cannot push myself into the red and force the nation to take another loan. Yet, I haven't been presented with the possibility of declaring bankruptcy. Is there something I'm missing?

Declaring bankruptcy is never optional. While ever you have sufficient monthly income to cover the interest, that payment is simply deducted from what should be spent on research. Only when the interest payments exceed gross monthly income, and there is nothing in the treasury, can you go bankrupt.

You don't want to anyway, since inflation will double and leave you in an even worse mess :D

Yes, they fixed the "positive" side effects of bankruptcy in an earlier patch!:)

Just pay off your loans so you have some flexibility-bankruptcy is no panacea these days.

Well, what I was gonna do was wait 'till I could declare bankruptcy and then build governors in all my provinces. I'm at 10% inflation right now, an' if I'm readin' ya right it'll double to 20% if I go bankrupt. I have more than 20 provinces without governors, so I can gradually lower it without too much difficulty. It'd just take time, is all.

'Sides, I've never run out of money before, so I wanted to see how it works! Ya never know 'till ya try...:D
