This one's a bit complex, so bear with me. Playing as Macedonia, I captured several province from the Bosporan Kingdom which were a bit far from my main provinces. I didn't really want to keep them, so I decided to let the first barbarian hordes to show up take the provinces and become client states. That worked out for one province, and while I was waiting for more barbarians to spawn, I colonized another province right next door. Eventually, a big horde of barbarians spawned to the north, took my recently colonized province, then headed for the other province I had captured from Bosporan Kingdom. They were in the process of besieging this territory when I decided to offer them client state status in the colony they took. They accepted. I noticed, however, that their army was still in my province. It had been converted to the new country, lost the barbarian flag, etc, but was still sieging my territory. I thought at first it would soon reset and they would leave, but it didn't; the ledger still showed the siege progress and I was regularly getting updates. While this was happening, the neighboring Seleucids moved troops into the territory a couple times, as if to help me fight the "barbarians", but of course nothing happened because the units there were allied with me. Even more oddly, I could still interact with the province normally, as if nothing was happening. Eventually, I lost the siege, and the province was listed as being controlled by barbarians, not by my new client state. I figured maybe I could get another client out of it at that point, but the button to negotiate with barbarians was grayed out. Then I noticed that my new allies were sieging the province to take it back from the "barbarians" (i.e. themselves). Once that was over, it all seemed to go back to normal. But, when I loaded the game up today, the armies of my two client states were marked as barbarians again! The countries themselves are still there, just the armies have been changed. Here are a few screenshots I took of the whole thing:

Here you can see what's happening right after the barbarians agreed to become my clients. Their army, now converted to a real army of the Ingvaeones country, remains in my province. You can clearly see here that the province of Scirii is now a seperate country, and that the army attacking Venedae belongs to it. The second army in that province belongs to Angrivarii, another barbarian client state of mine, based in Vandali. They were beaten by the barbarian army before I offered client state status.

The siege of Venedae continues. As you can see, it's proceeding like a normal enemy siege, even though the army clearly belongs to my allies.

The diplomacy screen with Ingvaeones. Everything seems normal here.

The siege is over. Note that the province is shown as being under barbarian control, even though it was an Ingvaeones army that conducted the siege. Note also the lack of ability to negotiate with the barbarians, and the fact that the Ingvaeones army is now attacking the province again.

After that, I saved and quit, as everything seemed to have returned to normal. A few minutes ago, I loaded up the game from that save and found this:

The armies of my two client states had been converted back to barbarians! The countries themselves are still there. In Venedae, you can see there are two armies, one listed as a barbarian horde of Ingvaeones culture and a second listed as a national army of the Ingvaeones country. Amusingly, after I unpaused the game, they started fighting! The only thing I can surmise here is that these were the armies they had before becoming my client states, while the small army in Venedae is one built after they settled down, and the game isn't recognizing the change somehow.
