Can not access saves. Freezes on New Game.

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I played for 10 hours plus uninterrupted yesterday with several saves/loads. All worked fine. This morning brought the game up, no saves to load. Load button grayed out. Clicked the Continue button, nothing happens. Clicked New button and the game freezes. Restarted the game, Steam, and so forth - no change. At this point I am unable to play at all.

Steps to reproduce the issue
1. Start game in Steam.
2. Click Campaign.
3. Note: Load button is grayed out. though I have many saves.
4. Continue button unresponsive.
5. Click New, after a few moment Windows 10 pop says BATTLETECH.exe has stopped working.
6. Restart game, same results.
7. Note: Also tried to change heraldry setting, just freezes. No error just sits there trying to load.

Okay so I went to the following location and I noticed my saves were there:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<user_id>\637090\remote\C0\SGS1

I also noticed that the folders 637090, remote, C0, & SGS1 were set to read only. I removed this. I can load games now. Though may be a coincidence, as further investigation shows that after a game load this folder setting gets reapplied back to read only and I am still able to load games after a game restart. Or maybe there is something that gets mangled during the check to see if there are saves files in the first pass and changing the setting to allow writing lets it move on. No idea just giving you as much info as possible.
