As the title suggests, this mod is based on the EA game Battlefield 2142. For those that are unfamiliar with it, the story is as follows:

"In 2106, the world froze in what was termed the "second Ice Age".

As snow and storms swept down from the north, the encroaching ice swallowed living spaces and resources and a frantic battle for survival began across the globe. Small-scale conflicts bloomed into major confrontations, as desperate nations united to form new superpowers-- the European-led EU forces and the Russo-Asian army otherwise known as the Pan Asian Coalition (PAC). With the formation of these coalitions came the consolidation of brains and resources needed to develop deadly new battlefront technologies: the Titans, vast airbourne dreadnoughts with the colossal destructive power to dominate the skies, and lethal, armored Battlewalkers, designed to outpace and outgun infantry. The fast scout vehicles that have a special ability of a speed boost ready to ambush, the EMP firing APC that has launch pods for titan mode and the devastating tank that stalks the land with its powerful cannon and mounted heavy machine gun.

By early 2138, the world's six factions were heavily fortified, ready to battle over the world's remaining land and resources due to the northern lands being covered in a vast layer of ice. Tensions rose between factions to compete over the last lands suitable for human resources. Expecting an invasion by the Pan Asian Coalition (PAC) into the agriculture-rich plains of Northern Africa, the European Union concentrated its resources along the Mediterranean, ready to assist the Union of African States. A foray by two PAC battalions into Egypt seemed to confirm their suspicions, but the attacks were merely feints, meant to distract the world from the PAC's primary objective—to destroy the military might of the EU's premiere units still located in Europe.

Following the defeat of the EU army in Europe, the stage was set for the Pan Asian Coalition military to force its way into the EU-occupied African mainland. In February 2142, the EU formed 'The Mediterranean Wall', a line of defenses along the North African coast from Morocco to Egypt. Meanwhile, the Pan Asian Coalition was drawing up a series of deception plans under the code names Kupalo, Dazhbog and Perun. These exercises were designed to preoccupy and divide the EU forces in preparation for the PAC's primary mission, Operation Motherland, a comprehensive, multi-pronged assault on the African continent."

The blank countries are currently undefined because I still haven't decided what to do with them yet. Probably a North American Union, South American Union and Oceania.

The BF2142-style interface is a work in progress and as such it is still a bit rough around the edges. This is just to give you an idea as to what it will actually look like.

Oh my god I love this idea! I loved the storyline for BF2142. Just not the game itself.

Also, for the colors I suggest orange for the EU and green for the PAC, also, North America is part of the EU.

Are you sure about that? I knew it would be a problem to keep it as true to the story as possible. Although the story was very good, there was very limited detail as to what was happening outside of Europe and North Africa. I assume the US still exists as an independent entity because of the official description of the SCAR-11. "The combined effort of multiple US and European arms manufacturers, the SCAR 11 has become the standard issue Assault Rifle due to its robust firepower and ability to perform in cold weather conditions." So we know that they appear to be working together at least. Perhaps they are allies? Also, the first trailer seems to suggest that North America got hit the worst by the ice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-DnK-d_sp0. Apart from that, there is hardly much else to go on until EA release more expansion packs.

I based my mod idea, Winter's Dawn, on a prequal to BF2142, perhaps we can combine our ideas and make the mod last from 2106 to 2150 or so, here are the nations in the original idea for the nations:

EU (consisting of the middle east, Europe, and North America)
PAC (Asia)
South American Confederacy (South America)
Union of African States (Africa)

The Scar-11 description could be that it was made before the union of the US and EU. I really like this idea. I'd love it if some company like THQ or CryTek bought the rights to the game and made it better.

Also, that first trailer is creepy. When the guy says "the battle for earth...had begun" it sent chills down my spine.

Yes, most of North America, a lot of Russia, and a lot of Northern Europe except for little paths through the glacier to Berlin and such.

Do it intelligently though, judging by the positions of the glacier in Verdun, Berlin, and Belgrade it should be easy to make up the size of the glacier.

Or just give them 0% infrastructure and no access to ground units, so air units can still travel through the provinces.

Looks interesting. Make there events like "Global freezing strikes" and then some province becomes zero infrastructure, zero IC etc.

Just remember that there are no airplanes, just VTOLs like the Doragon and the Talon. Maby the UAS would have them.

How about a "separate" nation that represents the ice? Each year it could "annex" more and more provinces.

It might be alright for if we have nobody who knows how to code.

This is what I had in mind. Scandinavia, some parts of the Baltic states and Northern Britain would have 0% infrastructure. Germany, Poland, northern France etc would still be usable but with low infrastructure levels. Basically, the further north we go, the lower the infratructure rate goes. Though, as we see in the game, certain areas like Berlin seem to be adapted to operate amongst the ice. So for example, Küstrin and Potsdamn would have an infrastructure rating of about 10% while Berlin has a rating of about 20% or 30%.

By the way, FallenMorgan, I'm testing out your colour suggestions. What do you think?

If america was part of EU then how would the game have the 6 super powers? Besides form the look of the trailer it seems only the interior of the US was covered the coasts would otherwise be ice free. The US would probably be trying to invade Mexico to escape the Ice.
@ Mordred
Also i think you could perhaps split indian and the middle east off from PAC since its seems more of a Russo-Chinese alliance for the most part.

Yes, I wasn't too sure about this myself. I assume the PAC absorbed the middle east and india during the rush to grab resources, much like the EU occupation of Northern Africa. Do you think the middle east coalition from Battlefield 2 would still exist at this time? And what sort of state do you think India will be in?

Let's see, for six factions. European Union, Pan Asian Coalition, South American Confederacy, Australia, Union of African States...and maybe the United States of North America.

Funny idea, illegal immigration from the US to Mexico! lol

I like the new map, for the minimap, I suggest making it grey with a sort of blue tint like in the original minimap things in the game. www.bf2142.com

I'll make some 800x400 flags that can be made into ingame shields/counters.

Well i was thinking that indonesia and the phillipines could go with australia and perhaps maybe japan included aswell. As for india and the middle east i think the MEC could have survived with all the oil they have giving them the wealth they need to develop advanced technology. Perhaps an MEC with control of india trying to capture the empty but now fertile Outback of australia. With overpopulated indonesia needing space and the MEC attacking it seems only proper they would try to do the same. So i would say and Austro-Indonesian alliance to stop the MEC would make sense.
Oh and since the PAC needs the sinai to attack egypt the MEC would be mainly based in Arabia and India.

Australia would be overpopulated from refugees in Asia, and also, perhaps India is an independant nation or something. In my idea for a sort of prequal to BF2142, the PAC was formed out of the Democratic Federation of Asia and Russia in around 2120. Perhaps we can have that as part of the plot.

Ok, these are the maps I'm leaning most toward to:

worldmap1jd4.png

In this one I expanded the ASEAN to include Australia, New Zealand, India etc, but the middle east remains part of the PAC.

And the second:

worldmap2hp0.png

This one is based on Ermac's idea that the MEC still exists and has control of India. Also, based on FallenMorgan's idea, I grouped North America with the EU to make up the six factions.
