Just as we enjoyed during GENCON50, I’ll be holding a BATTLETECH / BattleTech fan reception at a downtown Indianapolis venue on Thursday, 4 August. Our Downtown Champps Sports (inclusive of Solaris VII) Bar and Grill closed its doors for the last time, last year. As a result, I’ll find us a new venue in the coming months, one easily accessible

This reception, on the first evening of the convention, will kickoff what I hope will be more than just a single BATTLETECH event. I’ll track any additional BATTLETECH and all BattleTech (#CatalystGameLab) events, here in thread, as they are announced and just as we have in years past.

Questions? Please reply below, and/or PM me.

More to follow in the coming months…

Have a great day, and ever better tomorrows.

Steve

Any digital gatherings planned? I would love to attend, but that's not within the budget for a while.
While PDXCON does yeoman-work incorporating digital participation, GENCON is both much larger and unfortunately, not so digitally minded. Though GENCON made some important strides in reaching its digital audience last year, it is my understanding that many of the panels and boards are still not live-streamed. Fortunately, there will be a listing at some point letting us know which events will be GENCON-broadcast and some of the vendors may indeed livestream portions of their GENCON itinerary. While Catalyst Game Labs (CGL) is wholly, or in part responsible for hundreds of GENCON events, as far as I can recollect from 2017, none of these event, not even its premiere event: Masters and Minions (https://sites.google.com/view/catalystdemoteam/battletech/masters-and-minions), is live-streamed/narrated.

Here is the CGL description of Masters and Minions as well as a listing of other CGL BattleTech events for GENCON:

I’ll post all new/updated BATTLETECH/BattleTech-related information from GENCON2022 here to this thread as I find it.

I also like the idea of incorporating a digital aspect to the BATTLETECH fan event… does a ton have any ideas how something like that could be fun enough for distance-fans, yet seamless/interactive enough for those present at the venue/sports bar?

This is my second GENCON. During my first, GENCON50 (2017) I drove to Indy, stopping at Iron Wind Metals (IWM) in Cincinnati, OH on the way. IWM offered us the opportunity to wander their stockroom floor in the morning, and over Lunch cast any miniatures we didn’t find/they didn’t have in stock! Absolutely PHENOMENAL customer service! I’m a IWM fan for life.

I also stayed in a reasonably priced chain hotel just outside Indianapolis’ beltway on the Eastside of the city (one of my old Army Recruiting Company areas!)

This time around circumstances prevent me from driving to Indy, so alas no second triiAlso during my first GENCON, I was surprised to find that gamers would meet, greet, and game 24-hours a day in every corner of the Indy Convention Center. With so much gaming to be had, I came to regret having my hotel so far from the Indy Convention Center… though some time away from GENCON in 2017 proved to be a good thing as @HBS_HighCommand and Team Harebrained Schemes released the Beta of BATTLETECH’s Multiplayer game the very first day of the convention!!! …ahhh, the #goodolddays!

But without a Team HBS game release to look forward to, this time around I’m going to weigh a rental car and beltway hotel against public transport and a center city (convention area) hotel. And a center city hotel has a decided edge. I’d love to be able to post back to this thread all my Mechtastic GENCON2022 adventures with Catalyst Game Labs BattleTech Events and hopefully a Leviathans: THE GREAT WAR announcement! As well as “after-hours” BattleTech, Leviathans, Axis and Allies, Kings of War, and Flames of War, etc gaming!

For those not familiar with GENCON, the convention blocks out a number of rooms that it offers via lottery at more than fair rates to those who buy early tickets to the convention. Having bought an early ticket this year, I was entered in the lottery and with a time of 12:05pm tomorrow, have a great shot at getting/affording a room downtown.

Anyone have any GENCON downtown hotel recommendations?
