One line summary of your issue
Can not delete savegames via game UI

What platform are you running the game on?

GoG

What operating system do you use?
Win10
Which version of the game are you running?
current
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Shadowhawk Pack

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Using the GOG version of BT and trying to delete my old savegames using the ingame menu. Starting the game. Going to the Load menu. Clicking the X button to delete a whole campaign/career at once. Confirming that yes, indeed, I want to delete said career/campaign. Confirming that I am really sure, yes, thank you. Career/campaign gets deleted.

Only... it does not. Next time I start the game, it is there again. And I can load it up.
Have you tried verifying your files?
Yes

Steps to reproduce the issue
Start game. Delete career/campaign. Quit game. Start game again.

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log
Windows: \Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\output_log.txt
Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.
Windows: [Steam library folder]\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\DumpBox
For v.17 and beyond try here: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH
OSX: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > BattleTech > DumpBox
Linux: [Steam library folder]/steamapps/common/BATTLETECH/DumpBox

If a save game was loaded at the start of the game session, upload it. Please make sure to upload the save game with the timestamp closest to when you loaded it.
Windows:
Steam: [Steam installation folder]\userdata[SteamID]\637090\remote\C0\SGS1
GOG: 'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C#\SGS#'
Vanilla:'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BattleTech\C#\SGS#'
OSX:
Steam: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > userdata > [SteamID] > 637090 > remote > C#> SGS#
GOG: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > GOG.com > Galaxy > Applications > 50593543263669699 > Storage > Shared > Files > C# > SGS#
Vanilla: Macintosh HD > Users > [username]> Library > Application Support > unity.Harebrained Schemes.BattleTech > C# > SGG#
Linux:
Steam: /home/.steam/steam/userdata/[steamID]/637090/remote/C#/SGS#

I just had another user report this and I had them talk to GoG support.

The answer was you have to delete the save games while both BattleTech and Galaxy are running. Then close BattleTech and wait until it says it has synced.

You may have to do it a second time, they say.

When and why this change was made remains a mystery.

All the best!

Unfortunately, this does not seem to solve the issue.

I'm starting GOG Galaxy (1.2.59). Using this I start Battletech. Galaxy keeps running in the background (can alt-tab to it etc.) Deleting the careers/campaigns via the main menu. UI shows no saves left. Quitting the game. Galaxy synchronizes files. I start the game again. Savegames are back.

Tried it 3 or 4 times, saves just stick.

It did work for that other GoG user, I cannot account for it not helping you. Please contact GoG support, maybe there is some other variable not mentioned in their post to me.

I am having the exact same problem as the OP, and have submitted a full description and dxdiag to GoG games with a service ticket. I have tried uninstalling the game completely using an uninstaller program, and then uninstall GoG Galaxy, and then re install both and... I have the saved games I can't get rid of. They keep returning after I load the game. I can have Cloud saves off or on, or I can start the game with or without GoG Galaxy running. I can have my internet disabled. Nothing is working - I keep having the deleted saves refreshed on boot of the game.

What is irritating is that I have no idea where the saved games are located on my computer. There is NO AppData folder in my Users/Name directory, and there are NO saved game folders within either Battletech or GoG Galaxy install locations. This all started with the 1.7.1 patch and I just don't know what to do at this point.

For GoG, save games are at:
C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C#\SGS#\

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

AndrewT, you are amazing. Thank you SO much for mentioning that it was a hidden file. Once I enabled that I was able to navigate to my saved games folder and nuke the contents. At this point, it appears that the problem has been cleared up. For now. I'm just super curious as to why the UI suddenly stopped being able to delete files from that folder from within the game.

I got a response from GOG in the meantime and apparently the problem I had wa sthat I didn't wait long enough between deleting the saves locally and restarting the game. If you feel it might be useful, I can copypaste my answer, although it is in german (might translate it, but that'll take some time)

If anyone else has this issue, here is something to try to at least prove where the problem lies.

1) Shut down Battletech and GoG Galaxy
2) Check Resource Monitor to ensure Battletech isn't running and shut down any GoG Galaxy processes running in the background.
3) Watch Resource Monitor to ensure all Battletech and GoG Galaxy processes have been completely terminated.
4) Load Battletech directly not connecting the GoG in any manner.
5) Delete files.
6) Exit Battletech
7) Repeat steps 3 and 4

If the files you thought were deleted have returned it is an issue will Battletech and has nothing to do with GoG. If the files were deleted, the issue could be with Battletech, GoG or a communication issue between the two.

I am having a similar issue, although I suspect slightly different than the others here. For me the files never get deleted, which means it is a Battletech issue.
