Unusually for this game I see no reason for this problem in either of those files. That log just stops as no significant poiun t (such as evaluating memory or the video system), just between two lines.

And no significant error against the game in dxdiag either.

Has this game ever worked on this PC, or never yet?

What happens if you run BattleTech.exe directly?

If geForce Experience or the Nvidia app are running, exit them before trying the game.

On this PC the game never run before. But I have a HUGE game library and all games run smoothly.

What happens if you run BattleTech.exe directly? -> Same problem.

I tried today again and I might have found a hint: today, for one time only, the launcher window opened, but quite malformed (the upper half was missing). Still i could start the game. Since then, also after restart, the same problem.

So it seems that the launcher window has a problem being displayed. The game itself runs fine, its only the launcher window not showing. But also starting battletech.exe directly starts the launcher (I see that in task manager). Is there any workaround to start the game without the launcher?

I found the solution, the bug exists since 2018!

Right click battletech in the Steam client
Select properties
Click local files tab
Click browse local files

Right click BattleTechLauncher.exe
Select properties
Click compatibility tab
Under settings tick 'run this programme as an administrator'

That is not normally needed at all, I don't know why it was here ... glad it worked for you though!
