One line summary of your issue
Storyline has stopped progressing

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?
Linux
Which version of the game are you running?
1.7.1-598R
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Shadowhawk Pack

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I have been playing the Arano Restoration main campaign. I do not have any mods installed. I completed up to and including the Liberation of Panzyr and went through the crew discussion section where I was told to go off and do some contracts and that I would be contacted to begin the Liberation of Smithon and to acquire the noble needed to decrypt a LosTech data disc.

However, storyline missions have never appeared since this. I have completely upgraded the Argo (last medbay finishes in a few days). I have a full Heavy lance with mostly ++/+++ equipment plus some special mods, and many spare Mechs. My crew morale is about to hit 50. I have Black Market access. My Merc review board rating is at 3 stars. I have been zipping around the neutral and Arano areas.

I have spoken to others on Reddit, forums and elsewhere. They advise that they did not do anything special, just played and received the storyline missions every few completed contracts. I have also been advised by others, including some with modding and deeper knowledge of the game, that the storyline does bug out at times, and I have seen posts by others with similar issues where their storyline missions just stop and they had to restart.

I have loaded my save into a save editor, as advised by some others, and I can see the tag "oc05_post_panzyr_attack" there but I have no idea what I should do in order to trigger the storyline again.

I have only recently been playing, and there have been no DLC or other major patch releases during this time either.

FOR INFO: Your request for specs.html cannot be directly completed as the Paradox forums do not permit .html as a permitted filetype to be uploaded. I have run into this previously for your Linux builds when reporting bugs. I have therefore renamed this to specs.txt to allow upload.
Have you tried verifying your files?
Yes

Steps to reproduce the issue
Unknown. Storyline missions just stopped appearing.

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log

Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.
Windows: [Steam library folder]\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\DumpBox

Should I just give up that the campaign will ever work correctly? Doesn't seem much point buying more DLC if the core gameplay is broken like this. I may as well start modding up and use those instead.

Our BATTLETECH Modding Community has worked miracles with the base game and DLCs. I would very much recommend that you dive into some Mods next. : )

Then in a while, once you tasted the depth and variety that BATTLETECH Mods bring, come back and give HBS’s Campaign Storyline another go. It is worth the effort for a second shot. Andrew is a great writer of all-things Big and Stompy. Sorry for the problem you’ve experienced but Good Luck and Good Gaming as you dive back into the game.

I wanted to try mods, I was just hoping to experience the storyline and vanilla play first before moving to those. It's disappointing that I haven't been able to.

Are you able to roll back to an earlier save like before liberate panzyr and see if that fixes it? That honestly all that can be done from my understanding.

Probably, I have a bunch of saves. But I can't really be bothered. I'm deep in with the Argo maxed out, my Mechwarriors maxed out, my Mechs up to assault level and with special kit. And if the game is broken like that, why risk it just happening again if no-one is fixing it?

The story really is worth playing through at least once. You might look into turning on debug mode and forcing it to spawn the next campaign mission. I don't know the command you would need to use, but I am sure some of the modding community would.

I've seen others since also report issues with the storyline bugging out, but no interest in their reports either. I am very disappointed with the support from HBS/Paradox. Seems it is fine to make a game where the storyline doesn't even work for a lot of people and just ignore the issue, to work on shoving out more DLC instead. Those are some superb business practices.
