I was Imprisoned by the ruler of Hungary with no way to decline or fight. This confuses me a bit since the tooltip seems to suggest I would be able to contest that.

My expectation based on what this says was that a war would be initiated and he would need to defeat my army in order to imprison me, After all why else do i have all these soldiers? I am a running a freebooter camp and we dont really get mercenary contracts, i have been gathering soldiers for this very purpose only to find out that's not how this works.

Why can i not decline the imprisonment and force him to either fight me or deal with it? The king of Hungary who is the one who imprisoned me had 6000 soldiers to my 5000 but we all know how levies are in this game, I could have easily ruined his day.

So whats going on here?

1: Do you have to be numerically superior for this to take effect? and if so why?
2: Is the tooltip simply misleading?
3: Bug or other?

So is this tooltip pre- or post-imprisonment? Or both?

Well, I would read that as 'get out of town.' It doesn't say you will face them in a war.

I haven't played with RtP yet so I dunno whether this is just boilerplate text or whether it changes at all, but I wouldn't necessarily call it misleading,

It quite literally says you should leave if you cant face them in a war. Thing is there was no war at all? I most certainly was strong enough to beat him either way.

Why would it explicitly state that you should leave if you're not strong enough to face them in a war if there is no war? It seems very misleading to me.

How about we examine the top portion, It says they can attempt to forcibly imprison you, not that they can, that they can attempt to. Even this eludes to there being more then just simply instantly imprisoning the person in question. Otherwise it should say they can imprison you.

Truth be told i think the entire thing is quite misleading because both parts of it are simply false in some way. Where it says they can attempt to forcibly imprison, it should say they can imprison (no forcibly) because frankly adding the word forcibly also implies a struggle.

The next part should instead read "You should leave the realm or risk being imprisoned" period. Instead it says "You should leave the realm if you are not strong enough to face them in war" In my opinion its very clearly telling me that if he wants to forcibly imprison me, hes gonna have to fight me and take me by force. To be honest that makes the most sense anyways, I've never heard of a criminal surrendering willingly with a private army at their disposal...

Had the same over a week ago. A realm told me to go away, but I had stronger soldiers and was leading an army in the neighbouring realm anway, so I ignored it.

When the time was up, I was simply auto-imprisoned from leading my army elsewhere.

This definitely doesn't work right, and wouldn't be the first bug so far. And if that's a deliberate design decision... well, wouldn't be the first questionable one so far either.

I have to go to war with AI adventurer fugitives to imprison them, so your experience doesn't seem to be working as designed.

This mod claims to do the following:
  • If landless adventurer has military strength greater than 75% of the landed ruler's, landed ruler would not expel
  • If refusing the imprisonment interaction that happens after three months since the expulsion, war would start
Sounds like it solves all problems. It's sad that devs didn't care enough to fix this bug even now.
