Beyond the North Waves
An Amerikan AAR

The United States of America, the silent killer. It is 1936, and Hitler assumed power in Germany just a couple years earlier. Things looked bleak for Europe at the time however, the influence was spread, and into America, the ideas would be implemented. Fritz Kuhn, a man of strong German heritage was the leader of the ANP, or, American Nazi Party. People were unhappy in America, the depression was hitting them hard…Millions of people were out of employment…these people were angry at the current “democratic” government. It was time for a change, and Fritz would be the man to do it. He consulted the current American president about the rising power in Germany. He told him,

“The League of Nations is crumbling, and I don’t trust them anymore. The greatest power is probably going to be Germany in a few years time, and I suggest…You get on their GOOD side.” He stared the president in the eyes, showing no emotion at all, not even a blink.

“I have been thinking about this Fritz, chances are you are right and I have been working ahead of you. Germany has given us military access to their ports and country on this fine, yet somewhat cold day of January 17th.”

“Yes Mr. President, thank you very much, you will not regret this.”
Fritz left the room, feeling good. He has gotten on the president's good side. He probably wouldn't expect Fritz to be the man that has plotted against the American government.

Over the next couple weeks, Fritz would meet the president many more times, consulting him about many different subjects including his staff advisors, about making some changes that suited Fritz more.

A map of North America, and Europe

Fritz looked at the map.
"Henry! How far is it from Washington to Berlin!?"

"I uh, don't know sir. Quite a treck it is, but nothing impossible. Takes a couple of days by boat."

"Okay, I want the entire staff from Berlin to come back to America, we have buisness to attain to."

"Yes sir."

“Your time is up!”

“Who are you?”

”It does not concern you, you have served your last minute. Your replacement shall arrive shortly. Should you decide not to leave your office it will be done so in a way which you would not be pleasant. Mr. H.R. Mengert will be your new replacement.”

“MENGERT!? BUT WHY! He has done nothing for us!”

“This is politics my friend. Your desk shall be cleared in 0600 hours. If not, the rest will be disposed of. Good day.”

With that, Fritz left the room of Mr. Hoover. This was one of the many changes Fritz would make over the next few months. H.R. Mengert was an Efficent Sociopath, a man which far suited Fritz’s needs more than Hoover did. Mengert was the new minister of security for the United States of America. Hoover could present a problem in the future, however if he was smart he would not do anything. It was a cold day in January, the 27th to be exact. A day that began the changes…

As Hoover was leaving his office he glanced a short look at Mengert, who was walking tall into his new office. Hoover passed a curse towards him, however Mengert continued on, with a smile, and the knowledge of what was to come to America.
Hoover would be sent to Florida, unaware of what was happening in Washington.

“Ah, Mr. Mengert how are you?”

“Good and yourself Fritz?”

“I am great, in fact, I am extatic. With you in and Hoover out we can begin our operations for the ANP. James Counzens…I do not want him around here any longer. The earlier you can find a reason to get him out, the better. Find a way to get Henry Kaiser in there, the earlier the better. That is your first assignment, complete it and I will find you a better office than this hell hole.”

“It shall be done.”

“Counzens, long time no see how are you?”

“Great.”

“Do you feel no remorse?”

”What do you speak of?”

“We know your crime. It was despicable, an insult to these United States, how do you think you could of gotten away with it?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Murdering the follow up to Minister of Intel. Quite sad indeed, and now you shall be replaced.”

“What! No! You have no proof!?”
“Guards! Take him away.”

Two guards, dressed in black walked into the room. The grabbed at Counzens and as he tried to struggle the guards spoke a language unknown to him. A deep cover up was made for the story of Counzens, and it went over perfectly. Henry J. Kaiser was the replacement, a man who knew industry… Something America needed to catch up with the rest of the world. It was about time as Fritz said, “America is on it’s path to greatness.”

March 8th, the German Rhineland

“It is a glorious day for the German people. We are regaining our national identity, a pride which no English or Frenchman can overcome. We are one for our country. On this day, the 8th of March, our troops walk back into the German Rhineland, showing our superiority over the rest of the world. We thank the Americans for this, for if it wasn’t for them the Brits would not of cracked.” – Hitler

Washington…
Henry Kaiser open’s the door to Fritz Kuhn’s bedroom…

“Sir…sir… …. … SIR! WAKE UP!”

“Aaargh, what do you want!?”

“Important news, come to my office when you are ready”

”Yeah yeah, ill be there.”

*Henry Kaiser’s Office”

“This better be good..”

“Fritz, this is amazing. News from Germany… Their troops walked into the Rhineland after you pushed our president to tell the Brits to let them back in. Apparently there is huge rejoice in Germany. Rippentrop tells me that they are rebuilding their army. He also told me there is to be a shipment of German material to the United States. He knows we are a bit behind due to the depression and he says that the material is of purely military use. It isn’t much he says, but it will help our scientists in the process of making our own weapons.”

“OUTSTANDING! Ah yes, this will be great. Hopefully I will be in power by the time it arrives. If not I want it to be sent somewhere else in the meantime. I don’t want our government getting their hands on this.”

“Done and done. Anything else sir? Oh! Yes. Did you hear? That carrier that has been in production for years, it is almost complete. They call it the Yorktown! It will show up the British navy for sure, allowing our planes to go anywhere.”

“I heard of little details here and there, but that is good. I think it is supposed to be complete sometime in March.”

April 5th, Port of Philadelphia

Fritz arrives in a German Mercedes, a symbol of greatness. However, it is soon outclassed as the Yorktown comes into view. A ship of such intense size it cannot be explained. Fritz was shocked, he had never seen an aircraft carrier before, his jaw was wide open.

“What in the name of high school football? How the heck does that thing float!”

“Who knows sir, but it does” replied Fritz’s driver

“Think I will be able to get a tour of that thing?”

“Most probably, you were sent here by the president.”

”Yeah, you are right, I always forget…Man, its so big. Reminds me of myself, heheheh. Eh Bob?”

“Confident as always aren’t you.”

The car stopped and Fritz stood up, arching his back after sitting down for a few hours. He spoke to the guard and showed him the papers that allowed him in. He took a tour of the ship, and saw some of the Anti-Air guns. He went over and was in awe of the power these portrayed. It was amazing, Fritz let out a big grin as he sat down and pretended to be in control of the gun, he was like a child at play, not that he cared.

“Yeehaw!”

“This is absurd! What the hell is going on? First they are at war, and now what? An alliance, against who?”

“Japan sir.”

“That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.”

“Sorry sir.”

“Don’t be. Who knows what will happen… But geez, the nationalists allying with the Commies? You know, its those Russians in the Kremlin. Those damn commies, I hate them. I will get rid of them myself.”

“Fritz, you aren’t even in power yet.”

“Yet…that word is key. Henry there is much you have yet to understand. I will be in power of this country. I will build our industry. I will build our military. I will build a nationalist pride. I will build an empire. It is called North America for a reason, this land is meant to be ours. Not belonging to who…Canadians? Hah, they did nothing in the Great War. I will have my way Henry. Mark my words, it is the 29th of April, 1936. Remember this vividly, because it will be so.”

Moscow

“Hah, and when do you think we will back down? You capitalist pig, you know nothing about this great motherland.”

“Moltov, you are nothing but an idiot, and I will have none of it. This is not over, I…no…we will be back.”

“Charles, you amuse me. Your short temper never ceases to amaze me.”

Charles Coughlin was Fritz’s number one man when it came to foreign affairs. Many things were being done right under the nose of the American government. The plan was in the final phase, and with an ever increasing amount of dissent in the States the end would come quick, hopefully without bloodshed.

Port of Philidelphia

“Woah this is a purdy one ain’t it?”

“Yeah, what is it?”

“Um, the USS Vincennes or something, it’s a cruiser I recon.”

“Oooh… Boats scare me, which is why I am a happy little guard here thank you very much.”

“Hah, it scares me too. I just want to shoot one of them big guns…. KABLAMO!”

“Did you make that word up yourself?”

“Sure did. Hey man, my shift is up and then I’m allowed to go home. Mama is gonna make me some food. You have fun here.”

“Bob, I don’t like you sometimes”

“Bill, I don’t like you sometimes either”

The two guards at the entrance to the bridge onto the Cruiser stood there…for hours just chatting and putting on a straight face whenever an officer roamed by. The new cruiser lay in dock, still dwarfed by the USS Ranger. The two ships would stay together, and eventually join an entire battlefleet.

Taken from:
The End of One, the Beginning of Another

On June 14th, 1936 the world would be forever changed. After months of plotting the plan went underway. Under command from Fritz Kuhn his thugs stormed political buildings across the States. In the Whitehouse was a different story. He awoke the president himself, the room guards being with Fritz’s party. Fritz told the president the situation and that his time, like many others had come to an end. The president reluctantly agreed to the situation, resigning the same day. Fritz way the unofficial ruler of the United States of America. On the 15th, the world finnaly recognized that Fritz Kuhn was the new president of the United States. There was a parade of unparralel size in the streets of Washington. The new flag was waved by waves upon waves of soldiers fighting in Fritz’s name. The changed flag presented an Iron Cross over the previous stars, a tie between America, and Germany. Hitler was proud of Fritz and immediately began making proper ties. America and Germany signed a non aggression and trade pact. Many different ideas, and technologies were passed between the two countries, in plan for the Second World War. The entire American staff was changed. Mengert, Fritz’s chief of security was killed by a man still unknown to this day, probably somebody working for the previous American government. Fritz took this position for himself for the time being, as he saw nobody else ready to take it on.

Following the 2nd American Revolution the Spanish saw their chance. On the 19th of July their revolution began, however this one would be far more bloody, lasting years. Spearheaded by the Luftwaffe, the Nationalists bombed Republican forces to rubble. It was a war that was a testing ground for new German equipment. Lessons would be learned and put into use. This was also the first Facist-Communist war, whereby the Republicans were backed by the USSR and the Nationalists by Germany. The new American Empire had not donated anything to the Spanish other than good will, as the Americans were busy building an army ready to conquer the entire continent, and if so, to help with another continent.

The Big Guns

Over the course of July, August, and September heavy research was put into the creation of proper artillery. The Americans were low on such technology, and were initially having trouble with the original prototypes. It wasn’t until Germany in September helped them out with another shipment of supplies. The Americans received thousands of shells for each of the three different guns they received. Though, one of them was from the Great War it gave them many ideas on how to create something of their own. The first was a howitzer designed by Krupp. It was from the Great War, this gun had a massive barrel of about 400mm.

The Big Bertha
krupp.jpg

The second was an Anti Aircraft gun coming from the company Bofors. This gun had a barrel of 40mm and a rate of fire that was perfect for low-medium altitude aircraft. It could also be used as infantry support on the field, spitting out high explosive shells to mow down any soft target which lie ahead.

The Bofors 40mm
bofors.jpg

The last was the 88mm cannon. This gun was a multi tasked cannon capable of being an AA gun, an AT gun and even indirect artillery. This was the main gun in the Wherchmart at the time. The Americans copied and produced thousands of these, knowing they would come into use later on. Already, there were about 30 of these across the city of Washington, should anybody fly into restricted airspace.

The Famous 88mm
cannon88.jpg

There was also a layout sent as well, for a secret gun...it was supposed to be an 800mm cannon, prototype name the Gustav. It was the largest gun ever made to date, and dwarfed the Krupp Big Bertha...

A drawing of the Gustav

All that is needed to be said is that Fritz is quite content, he knows the American Empire is on its path to greatness.

“On this here day, in Dallas Texas, we say goodbye to our last cavalry division comprising of…well…cavalry. For many years you and your forefathers served us well. However, horses no longer can compete against modern tanks and guns. You proud servers of the cavalry division will be given full compensation and training towards the adoption of modern warfare.”

The stride to improve the American navy took another step on the 30th of April when the cruiser USS Philadelphia was completed. It, along with the USS Houston joined the USN Atlantic Carrier Fleet. The fleet was one of the most powerful floating forces on the planet, as well, it was to be escorted by the USN Heavy Atlantic Fleet and when completed, the USN Atlantic Sub Fleet, however that was a ways off. The USN Destroyer Fleet was also sailing around; making sure no submerged threats engaged the massive flotilla.

The American military officials are very high on the control of the seas due to the fact they are isolated from Europe. Control of the seas allows them to ship men, supplies, anything anywhere. Air power would come in as well, with the aircraft carriers it would allow fighter, dive bomber, and torpedo bomber anywhere around the home carrier. It is a tactic that should prove worthy. The Americans also are investing a lot into the idea of marine landings. This, could catch any opponent off guard, creating a new front on which they must defend.

Well, considering that the HOI AAR forum is pretty much R.I.P....

“What? Are you serious?”

“Yes sir, a purge of officers. Hundreds killed already, one of their field marshals too I’m told.”

“That’s insane, what is Stalin thinking!?”

“Paranoia sir. He trusts no one, so he eliminates anybody he thinks might be trying to take his place.”

“I don’t know what to think.”
“None of us do sir, we will just keep an eye out for the situation. See where Stalin goes with this.”

Fritz and Henry continued discussing the issue in the Soviet Union, both of them in a sort of shock. Fritz assured Henry, something should be done…but what?

*September 8th
Fritz looked at a map of the Spanish frontline. The land was divided up so far, about 50/50. However the Nationalists were gaining ground quite quickly, he guessed that the German Luftwaffe was pounding the Republicans with tons of bombs, and the Fighters blasting any commie bastard who thought he could change the out come of the war…A Nationalist victory.

*June 8th-10th
Japan’s elections began and ended, leaving a new dynasty of Japanese emperors, and a new war. Japan declared war on Communist China on the 8th. Realizing they couldn’t get to the Commies they soon declared war on Nationalist China on the 10th of June. Fritz didn’t know if he should choose sides, helping one or another. So he stayed put, having his advisors just check up on it.

The Japanese forces were clearly superior, their navy matched only by the Royal Navy of the British. Japanese forces crossed into China from the Manchurian and Korean fronts, as well as many amphibious landings across the coast. By the 22nd of September Japan had made decent headway into China; however the Chinese cut Japanese troops off to the north, severing the front. Fritz still, didn’t know who to favor in the Japan-China war, neither did his friends in Germany.

My computer is too slow for HOI 2 to run on it, but I'm fine with the original anyway. The HOI AAR forum isn't entirely dead, theres a few new AARs popping up.

October 12th

Two soldiers discuss their new uniforms…

“Damnit, looks like the same stuff the Krauts have.”

“It is the same stuff John. Personally, I like it. These helmets are the great.”

“It’s all grey though, what do we blend in with? I liked the olive drab we used to have”

“Get used to it John, the prez says this is standard from now on. I guess its part of our relationship with Germany. I can’t wait till we try these out in war games.”

“Man, you are nuts. Whatever, I guess I can get used to em.”

Over the late weeks of September the American government made an issue of new uniforms. These uniformed were similar to the German uniforms. They were grey, however much darker and the helmet looked more like the standard German one. There was no real reason for the change other than the fact the Americans and Germans were getting along quite well. The change went over quite well, and the American uniforms were sold to the Italians whose uniforms were old and quite dated. This came along with the advancement of military submachine guns. The rate of fire was excellent compared to the rifle however it was far more inaccurate. The submachine gun was great for indoor and close range use. The rifle however, was still the best infantry weapon for long range shots. The Germans helped out the Americans once more, sending thousands of MG34 light machine guns. This was a far superior improvement over the American LMG and was copied and put into use.

October 27th
“Hot damn, our spies are good. Henry, look at what we got!”

“Fritz, what is this?”

“Blue prints for basic artillery. We stole the stuff from the Japs. I had one of my guys in Tokyo grab it for us. I guess getting military access paid off after all. He was in, and out in a week. Beautiful isn’t it.”

“Hmmm, I guess we should send these to the Pentagon?”

“Yeah, I don’t understand what the hell these mean anyways. Heh, I’m still so happy! Woooo. Bring me some beer will ya?”

Despite the beer Fritz spilled on the blueprints it was quickly dried up and sent out to the pentagon where it would be put to more use.

Pacific for a change

The Atlantic Navy was always under constant upgrade and re-organization. However the Pacific Fleet was always overlooked. Over the course of November the Pacific fleet was divided up into four different flotillas. There was:
USN Carrier Fleet Pacific : 6 Battleships 4 Cruisers 2 Aircraft Carriers
USN Heavy Fleet Pacific : 3 Battleships 9 Cruisers
USN Medium Fleet Pacific: 6 Cruisers 2 Destroyers

More cruisers were in the making as well, ready to join the mass armada of ships the Americans owned. The next cruiser to finish completion was the USS Savannah that joined the Atlantic Carrier fleet, this was on January 6th. Following the Savannah was the USS Wichita that joined the Pacific Medium Fleet, it would be followed by the USS Nashville and the USS Boise. With that, the Medium Fleet was complete.

Noticing that the American navy was still not the most powerful, Fritz made an order to fortify the entire American coast, east and west. Beaches from Maine in the north to Texas in the south were littered with convoys of trucks, men, guns, artillery and supplies. The idea was to create a wall that sealed off the American mainland from the ocean, the task began on the 16th of January, 1938. The process would take two stages. The first would be the creation of sand bunkers, trenches and light underground tunnels. The second would be more complex, implementing concrete bunkers along with the earlier fortifications. The addition of behind the line artillery would come in as well, so if anybody was stupid, or brave enough to set foot on American soil they would be zeroed in by thousands of American cannons.

CONQUISTADORS

The Spanish Civil War was over. It was purely one sided as known by the entire world. The German Luftwaffe pounded the Republicans into submission, even the Red Air Force could not do a thing to help the Republicans. The German Luftwaffe was honored by the Nationalists after the war for their bravery.
Fritz was exstatic about the victory in Spain. The fascist ideal was spreading across Europe. He sent his gratitude to Franco, the leader of the Nationalists. America then received another shipment from the Germans, this time containing many pictures from the war, along with supplies and such other things.

Fritz marveled at the pictures he saw of the German Luftwaffe and how the dominated the skies. He hoped that one day his own American Air Force could do the same thing, untouched by anybody.
