Playing as Targs in Robert's rebellion, every time, I do well until I meet an army led by the Blackfish in the field.

I can outnumber him 10 to one, and it makes no difference. He will singlehandedly, with 2000 troops, beat off a three pronged attack from 20+ martial commanders. His troops will lose men, but never an ounce of morale.

This has to be a bug. I can buy a good commander winning the odd battle against the odds, but I've never seen anything like this.

Yeah, he's just as unbeatable in the War of the Five Kings scenario as well. Hell, all the Northern commanders are unbeatable compared to those siding with Joffery.

Blackfish is a monster, plain and simple. He's one of the few characters with the 'Brilliant Commander' trait.

Same goes for some Northern guy in Moat Cailin called Hosten Trent. The guy is a friggin' nightmare when I'm playing as Jon Snow fighting the Boltons. Roose always makes him a commander and he crushes me Every. Single. Time. I had to kill him via console just to stop him ending my game 5 minutes in.

Seriously guys, don't underestimate your commanders.

this is why i always educate my children in military, but damn i never knew it effected battles this much, i like that, makes a great commander truly feel special.

So true, the Blackfish is a legend.

But regarding your problem, depending on what Targ you play as, you should really try and invite him to your court. I did it playing as Rhaegar once and it swayed the war in my favor. Since he has a strong claim on the Riverlands, he is very likely to accept your offer (because of his and Hoster's bad relationship).
