It is nothing new - sadly. There is nothing worse for regular MP game when some premature, impatient or insolent player, who mostly came just for one session, ruins the game by doing something clearly against the game, unconsulted Dows or some other backstabbs. I don't mean losing battle, but intentional harm of the game.

Therefore, I ask you to share your knowledge about such people, who either
  • intentionally ruins the game instead of leaving it when it is not meeting their "tastes",
  • cheats,
  • or are very rude

I don't want to live in space when you must totally isolate yourself in case of not being harmed. I want to let in players to the games I'm part of, but I don't want to loose those games. I hope this list won't be too long...

Suspect #1

Nickname: Calogero (used in the time he tried to harm our game)
Time: it was between 18-21 gmt, on the 28th June 2005 (Monday)

Suspect desription: He wanted to conquer very much (being axis Nat. Spain), but was grounded by Axis majors (Germany, Italy). He started to be impatient and many times mentioned how fast he can conquer anybody. Clearly person with lack of acknowledgement or just too young. Then suddenly he DoWed SU and Vichy France. SU after Bitter Peace (resting in peace). It was without warning, in the time of Allied offensive in the Middle East. He then wrote something like "HERR HITLER, I PISS ON YOU...", again bragging how fast would he conquer Vichy and so on. Then he left. We had to edit the save to bring it back to the state before his malicious action.

He is probably using different nick names (how unexpected... :p)

Lord Ederon,

such players are very annoying and problematic, but remember that some of our Paradox Forum nicknames are beeing used on Vnet without our knowledge.

Two games are sopose to beeing started this week, wednesday afternoon- 17GMT(restarted after some problems with unkown players) and sunday afternoon - 17GMT. Your are welcome in both of them.

Cheers,
Ortahnk

Yes, I know. But including their "profile" should help us identify them. That's why I added description, not only nick name.

It's a good idea, but I'm afraid it won't do much good because you can easily change nick in vnet. It's wise to talk to the new players for a while before you start to get an idea of his personality. Some are polite and someone reveal their boorish nature right away.

Better yet, dont allow new faces in any regular game.
Every once in a while, I start up a new session with some new faces. Once you get to know them a bit in a more ad-hoc group, you can allways invite them for further games.

As for a 'blacklist', I doubt if it will help. Vnet nicks can be changed in 2 seconds. I named a few cheaters back in HOI1 in of the cheaters topics, and never seen those names again in vnet. I very much doubt the post scared them away entirely. I just assume they are active under different nicks.

Blacklist?

Well i did not think Blacklist is a tool, who will have great sucsess, due to the fact that pepole can change nicks. Also it does require a sense of objectivety, and knolage to post somone at the blacklist. For this reason i do not know if i will do that, but i will mention a player, i do want to poingt out that maby blacklist is wrang page to tell about him, and maby he is inisent in my accurisations and suspisions.

But i experienced something i never before have experienced, i played a Game with (Zero)also called ZeroAce, Messiah, Swiftinn, Sleeper, Gfm50, Svenn, and a few more players. The UK (Messiah) did manage a coop on USA (Zero), this gave USA interventionism and same political slider settimgs as UK, so USA coud declere war. I do not want to have any acurisating opinions on this, other then i have never seen it before, and it feels like a cheat.

In another game, i had on vnet 3 April 2005, same player as in the game above, using the name Zero, was SU, he did coop sucsessfull USA, UK, Romania, Japan, Germany, Italy and France. All this nations become Comunist and all sliders got to be same as SU's sliders. This was very anoying, we had played 7 hours, and of course the game had to be rehosted from a autosave.
But then we descovered we had to cansel the Game, SU had dispanded all its troops, all its airforce and all its navy. This set back was very anoying, because we looked at sevral save files, and he did so erly, without any other player notecing it.

I do not usualy think blacklist is the tool to prevent unserius players, i dont evan know if it is legal on forum, the thing who woud help, is if Paradox woud develop a system of logging IP, and use account to play on Vnet.
I hope that system woud come, but dout that it will.

Because of all unserius players, who cheat, or destroy games in other ways i only play with my group, for all new players i must recommend to get a group of stable players, with same reliebilety and intelligence, and play good games with them. It is realy good games, and we have no vnet half games, or vnet destroyed games, or vnet cheet games... only games as good as we make them our self, and thats always very good.

Free Calogero!

Gah, i have played with Calogero a few times and he behaved like a reliable, sensible and decent bloke (rather good player aswell) . So either he had a very bad day or someone nicked his nick.
:)

as orthank mentioned players can use someone else's nickname. i have seen players try to get into a full game by lurking in vnet and switching their name to the name of one of the regulars, then joining the game. The regular player is then unable to join the game, since a player is already loading with that name. there is not much one can do about these sorts of things, but be aware of that before you blacklist a player's nickname.
