The other day I saw Diegosimeone post asking about advice on books on Venice.
I suggested a book which I hope will be useful and enjoyable to him.
This brief exchange made me realise on thing. I really know little about Venice arch enemy Genoa.
Sure I got pieces of information on Genoa.
You read about the history of Venice and the Republic of Genoa is always there, scheming and fighting to contend the mediterranean trade and riches with la Serenissima. You read about Spanish history and Genoese bankers are omnipresent everytime there are wars, colonial expeditions or economic plans that need funds to be raised. You read about the Emperor and the Sultan fleets battling for control of the Middle Sea and Genoese galleys are often there in the middle of the conflict.
So I think it is time do deepen what I know about La Superba.
Can any of you suggest books dealing with the history and the internal working of the Republic of Genoa?
Suggestions of books in English, French or Italian will be very much appreciated!
