Hoping that someone can answer this question:

Is there anyway to mod the number of brigades that a unit can have attached to it i.e. giving INF more than one brigade?

Did some searching and seems that this is hard coded and can not be changed, just want to make sure that this is still the case????

Thanks for any replies.

So am I to understand that ships are no longer hard coded and can be changed? i.e. I can have a DD with more than 1 attachment/brigade? If so how/where can this be changed? Does anyone happen to know? Would love to give an improved hull to my CV's. Thanks for any help that is forthcoming.

I did find it and was able to change what I wanted. Thanks for the quick reply and all your help. Just curious though, why only ship models and not land?

It goes like this :

1) The original HOI2 had, like HOI1 before it, one brigade max for each division.
2) HOI2 Doomsday removed the Escort Fighter unit and instead activated am Escort Fighter attachment for bombers. Thus, air units now had the possibility of an attachment.
3) HOI2 Armageddon, the 2nd expansion, introduced the system of 5 attachments for ships.

Since Arsenal of Democracy is based on HOI2:Armageddon, it is its descendant, these things are inherited as well, among many, many others (for better or worse). AoD had just one permanent programmer, Lennart, ( I arrived last summer) and others on and off. There's only so many things a "one man army" can accomplish.

Now, I'm not saying land divisions with multiple brigades are not doable. They are, but not for free. We're talking "division builder", a radical game changer in a literal way.

It all comes down to the community. You hold the money, you hold the power.

Supply and demand. If there is a demand for HOI3 "bling" in AoD like a division builder, we'd be willing to supply it in an expansion.

Thanks for the detailed/informative answer. This does explain alot. It also answers the question that I have pondered which is the CAG brigade/attachment. One of the few changes that HOI3 made that I really like/enjoy is an indepent CAG. (other than the targeting of specific provices by air units which you guys changed and did a great job doing it by the way)

It sounds like this is a change that could be incorporated into an AOD expansion by way of "division building" if the community wants it and as you say is willing to pay for it.

Well let me be the first (if no one already has) to say that this is something that I would be willing to pay something for.

While I do enjoy HOI3 there are just some things that I grew to really enjoy about HOI2/DD/ARM and now AOD that just aren't in HOI3.

Once again thanks for the replies and info as it has been a big help and please continue the good work that you do!

Cool, the retail price has dropped to 3333 USD, if we assume that making such an expansion would 'cost' only 10K USD. :D;)

That said, yes, such an expansion would be very tempting. But tbh I would like to see some other improvements before.

Actually the right price would be 6666 USD with 3 votes yes. But back on topic. As Radu asked "Like?"

The only reason I said anything at all was because I believe that HOI3 truely understands what CV's actually bring, which is a floating island of which to extend your airpower. This especially important to Japan who could/did not build airbases in China and of which a CV was able to serve as a dual purpose giving them the ability to hit inland targets. This is not possible in HOI2 or present mods. Now I don't know if it can or should be done, because I am not in any way a techy, I merely wanted to say that something like this would enhance my gaming experience. It is in no way to be taken that what I have now is in any way better then the old cardboard pieces and paper maps that wargames used to be in the '80s.

I am just suprised that not more people have at least offered their opinions on this subject as they have on so many other things.

I've already sent a proposal to wyK1NG- last year which offered a way to circumvent problems re: ai usage of the division designer. ;)

You asked for other improvements: Being able to freely add and rename areas and regions is one of my biggest wishes as it would massively improve new maps like AOD/E3. Atm they're simply hard-coded. It'd be preferable if the engine would simply check the content of the worldnames.csv file to verify the entries in the province.csv file.

I think it's a good time to reveal that 1.06B3 will feature a scripting facility that will enable modders to tell the AI exactly what brigade types it should attach to what divisions. This way the AI will know what brigade slots are good for, especially user-defined slots or heavily modded vanilla slots.

Cool, this is something which I had in mind when I wrote back to wyK1NG- this week and mentioned a more dynamic ai. This will make realising my ideas definitely easier. :)

re 1.06B3 - Cool :D

re # of attachments to divisional structures. Just so im in the clear here, would adding multiple brigade types ala ships to ground & air units equal a major redesign? Working on CWE Extension for AOD and were bumping up versus game engine limits in these very areas. It would be great to get some clearance on this for the foreseeable future. Cause it seems to work fine for ships.. :)

It would equal one banner-bearer feature of a hypothetical AoD expansion, simply put.

How hypothetical depends on how willing the community is to support BL-Logic in this endeavour. Financially that is.

It's all about bang for the buyer's buck. It's not worth coding if it fizzles.

I would be in. Since IC and now DH, AoD will need to stand apart on its own. This would be one good way to do it im sure.
