Now, Britany is quite a choice!
I wonder whether you will be able to achieve much, with your extremely powerful neighbor France... There are no small nations bordering you to diplo-annex, either...
Hmmm. Something tells me that this will not be one of those expansionist AARs...
Anyway, I am intrigued!

Looking forward to it!

BTW I am going to try to do another Multi-AAR, the other one I joined err... died... so if any of you want to join (YOU MUST KEEP ACTIVE!)

Chapter I: Preparations for the war.

One Thousand years ago, with the fall of the Roman Empire, when the Angles and the Saxons invaded our homeland, our tribe came from Britain to settle a village here... Bravely, we fought against foreign invaders, such as the Vikings but our neighbour, France has always been our friend. When the Franks invaded our country, around the year 800, we had lost all of our sovereignity. But when France became independent from the Carolingian Empire, they did gave us freedom. Though we still have to pay a small tax to the French Crown, and we are, in theory, part of France, we are largely independent. Hmm... where was I, oh yes, I was explaining how our nation came into existence. Well, Charlemagne invaded Brittany and we lost our independence. But, his Empire fell apart and it was divided into Germany, France and Lorraine (which later fell apart in Burgundy, Italy and Lorraine, which Germany all conquered). but in 846 the Bretons gained independence from Charlemagne's grandson, Charles the Bald, under their leader Nomenöe. In 922 the Count of Rennes proclaimed himself Duke of Brittany. The dukedom became, through marriage, a possession of Geoffrey Plantagenet, son of Henry II, in 1171. It reverted to a line of French dukes at Rennes early in the 13th century. But last year, our great Duchess, Anne de Bretagne, married His Majesty Charles III of France, uniting France with Brittany. I don't like that imperialist, to be honest, and I will do anything to get full independence!
But I have not yet introduced myself. I am Duke Henry de Nantes, and First Advisor of Her Majesty the Duchess.

The Castle of Bretagne, January 2, 1492

"Bienvenue, monsier le Duc."
"Merci beaucoup, Armand."

The Guard knew that Henry de Nantes was a privileged guest at the Dukal Court, and he let him pass.

"Ah! Ma chère Duchesse!"
"Bonjour Henri!"
"Comme c'est possible! Ce fou!"
"Mais, quel fou, Henri?"
"Ah, votre mari, madamme!"

"What has he done now?"
"Well, madamme, he went on a holiday to Savoy!"
"He did?? Without even consulting me?? He always visits me! When he wants to go on a holiday he always comes to Bretagne!"
"He is getting less and less loyal to Your Majesty, madamme.
"I can't stand him! He told me we would be together all the time but I haven't seen him since 6 months! He didn't even invite me to the New Year Party!"
"...but still he claims Bretagne to be his property..."
"Henri, I want a divorce. I want to marry you!"
"But Your Majesty, we cannot do that, the Catholic Church would turn against us if you divorced! That is illegal!"
"Then what do we do?? You said you wanted independence!"
"Well, we could just kill Charles..."
"Excellent idea! Invite an assasin to my palace at once!"
"Mais madamme, c'est impossible! We cannot do that yet! First we need to prepare our forces and increase our treasury."
"Why?"
"Because the French will invade if we kill the King... we need armies to stop them... Then we also need money, to buy peace. We can never win from France, never! Therefore, we need 500 ducats to give them.
That will calm them down."
"Good! Raise an army at once!"
"Oui, madamme. Mais d'abbord..." *He starts whispering.*
"Excellent!"

Armies were recruited as an adition to the pathetic 1,000 cavalry-6,000 infantry army that currently was in Bretagne.
Also, ships were built in all cities of the Dukedom...

Chapter II: The Irish War

By February 1492, nine transport ships, filled with 15,000 soldiers left the harbour of Bretagne.
No-one knew to where they would leave.
Generally, all nations were friendly towards Britanny, and especially the Celtic nations of Scotland and Ireland were our friends.
When the ships had left the harbour, the Duchess personally invite every chief of every village in the Dukedom to come to here Castle (There are no fancy palaces, market places (only small ones) or balconies such as in decadent Florence, in Bretagne).
There the Duchess, aided by Duke Henri spoke: "My dear nobles. Today, nine ships filled with soldiers have left the harbour. It will probably be world news. I will tell you all of the details.
A long, long time ago, our people came from Britain. We are still Celts! The Irish are also Celts, but they are unorganized, and it appears that the evil English will annex them sooner or later.
We can spare them from the humiliation of a surrender to England!"
"Yeah!! Celts shall be brothers! Long live Duchess Anne! Long live Duke Henri!!" The council, seemed to agree with the Duchess...

Far away from the homeland, soldiers landed on foreign land.
The King of Ireland had been a vassal of England, but now he would be relinquished from this terrible insult.
The Bretons marched onto the Irish provinces, conquering them all.
The Irish didn't even have walls... The Duchess would change all that...
The pathetic Irish army deserted when they saw the Bretons coming and on July 21, Duchess Anne came of the Ireland, her Ireland.
She was crowned Queen of Ireland there, but she gave the King the formal right to become constitutional Monarch, under her Supreme command.
She would build up the Irish fortresses and increases the prosperity in the Irish provinces.
The 15,000 men army would stay in Ireland for in case there would be a revolt, or an English invasion.
The world hates us, and Queen Anne offered Royal Marriages to a lot of nations, and sent a lot of money to great powers.
Especially, England we fear, since we have taken their vassal and insulted them.
We will now concentrate on rebuilding the Irish provinces and to expand our trade Empire and diplomatic relations.

quite a good starting;)
i did a celtic empire last time i played with brittany, scotland wales, corwalls and ireland.
the big problem here is the cost of the army, put your inflation at the lowyer level 0.08 or 0.10.stay ally with french ang go to protestantism (colony)(more money) earlier when you can, during a war for not breaking alliance.and then you should make colony in north america.that is all:)

Good start, I see this AAR going places.

Chapter III: Maintaining power and diplomatic efforts.

May 1497, Castle of the Duchess

Years had passed since the succesfull conquest on Ireland.
The Duchess decided to stay three months in Ireland every year, to inspect her territories.
Anne had never been a Conqueror, she wanted peace, and happiness for all Celtic people.
Therefore, she decided that she would not take part in any war, which could harm her precious Bretons or Irish.
When she was in Ireland, usually september, october and november, she inspected the Irish infrastructure, talked to the people and visited her armies.
She had promised to improve the lives of the Irish, and today she would make her promise come true.
Three architects were gathered in La Grande Salle des Chevaliers of her Castle.
Duchess Anne would brief them about their mission: they would ship to Ireland to build fortress around Leinster, the largest city, with 1248 inhabitants, of the Irish island.
Only then, the inhabitants could feel safe. An English invasion was always possible.

Castle of the Duchess, September 1498

The Duchess had just left to Ireland, for her annual inspections.
Duke Henri was in charge for the Dukedom untill the Duchess arrived.
He ordered to build up an army to guard Armorica.
Also, he sent out his family members to marry foreign Princes, especially in the Holy Roman Empire.
When the Duchess returned, everyone, except Austria, Spain, France, England and Venice, liked us more or less...
Especially with Scotland we have a very close bond.
For years, the marriage policy continued, and diplomatically, our family became one of the most pôwerfull in Europe, having a Royal Marriage with almost every House.
Only England, and that is a different story...

England 1499-1502

Venice was at war with England!
They besieged Calais and Dublin!
Then they annexed Dublin, so that England had finally lost all of Ireland.
It will now be a lot harder to unite Ireland, since Venice is far away from Ireland...
However, a British invasion is now most unlikely...
Though a common border would be good... we might vassalize our powerfull, former neighbours.
The great wizard Fransiscus Brittanicus tells us that England will be struck by Civil War soon and that the great powers will divide the nation among each other... I hope we are with the great powers by then...

Help control the pest population, have your English spayed or neutered.

Oh, and I must make certain to introduce the Bretons to the wrath of the Army of Erin. After all, they'd do the same to us if they could ;)

I used to use that wizard too, until the bastard wanted to charge me for dispensing information. Now I use the most exalted Heronymous Google.

BTW, isn't being ED free a delight? I shot him in my AAR. :D

My error, Forster. I meant to say 'I had him shot' :)
