After having had walk overs as various countries I decided to try Britain in the hopes that the AI would give a decent game.
Vanilla 1.05c set to hard/aggressive with the following self imposed restrictions:
Tech exchange is limited to giving one tech to a country when it first joins the alliance or giving one tech in return whenever the country gives me one.
I will not take military control of any country that I did not start the game having control.
1936-1938: The early years followed the typical pattern in Europe with Germany getting Austria and Chzechoslovakia without any trouble. No unusual occurances.
In Asia, however, the Japanese have not yet declared war on China.
I sent a few divisions to reinforce various locations in the Far East and only did a minor build up in the Mid East. I also dispatched a strong task force of 7 ships to Singapore.
I established a BEF in France of about 10 divisions which I kept under my control and had in the two provinces bordering Belgium nearest to the coast.
I took a fairly balanced approach to research and to building up forces during peace time.
It became clear in early 1937 (this was my first time ever playing Britain) that I was easily going to peg all 4 resources at 99k and be wasting a large amount of each. I established moderate size convoys to Commonwealth members and New Zealand to pump their economies.
1939:
Poland went off on schedule without a hitch and the usual Balkan coutries are falling into the Axis fold as expected.
After shifting forces west, Germany crushed the Benelux countries in October. My British advance into Antwerp in an attempt to hold part of Belgium was pushed back across the border into France. Germany stopped at the Belgian border apparently to wait for spring.
Italy joined the Axis in December of 1939. Yugoslavia was still neutral at this point.
I began rolling up the Italians in North Africa easily even though I only had a few British divisions there and was using mainly Iraqi troops to do the job.
As of the end of 1939, Japan had still not declared war on China.
