Ive been playing this game for a while now but an annoying thing happens. The game suddenly crashes without warning. This has happened a handful of times now and Im concerned that Ive spent 30 pounds on a game which isnt going to work.....is there a patch of something to stop this? Its a UK version.

Sometimes when I start the game it says that there is a problem and something to do with a DLL file...

PS...this computer which I use definitely has the specifications for the game so its not a lack of hardware.
 
It's something to do with directx and EU2 disagreeing on how to handle screen resolutions. It normally only happens on exiting the game. Note it will screw up some other directx based games too.

Other than to make sure you are up to date with you video drivers there isn't much you can do except reboot. Some people claim directx 8 is marginally more stable.

Using Windows XP or 2000 cures most of the side effects of this problem (i.e. you can reload the game after the crash) but not much help to you if you are running Win 98/ME
