Excommunication bug

I dont know if this has already been reported, but everytime I try to excommunicate somebody I get booted to desktop. Will this happen every time I try?

Is there a pope? If not, then yes, trying to excommunicate someone will cause a CTD. I found that problem occurred every time a Moslem seized Rome (which happens pretty often).

Ahh...umm...I kinda took out the pope I think. I took all Pope lands, but they are now part of a seperate state and I am the Papal Controller. Ill ask this on the main page. thanks

This happens to me too, but only in the following case: When loading a game, I get a (false) message that X is the new papal controller. Sometimes X is me, and if I immediately try to excommunicate someone, I get a CTD. The excommunicate option however disappears after playing for some time, also I have no cross on my character icon. BTW Rome belongs to the duchy of Bohemia (not me).

As I've already mentioned in a few threads (and already in this one), if there's no Pope, attempted excommunication causes a CTD. I think I must be writing in invisible ink, though.
