I'm running Clink through Steam on a HP Compaq 6005 with an AMD Phenom II X4 B97 (4x 3200MHz), 8GB RAM, and a Nvidia GT 1030 graphics card.
OS is Debian 10, all packages are updated to their latest available version from Buster-backports.

At random intervals the game just segfaults to desktop and there's no indication in the debug log that I can see to help me figure out why.

There's a much newer video driver, you may as well try that:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/149138/en-us

If that doesn't help, as you say there's nothing in the log about the problem. Is there nothing in the Linux logs that record the crashes?
I'm using the latest driver available to me on Debian 10 stable. Adding drivers from other sources "breaks" Debian and apparently the Debian maintainers hate that, so I can't very well go try that.

From /var/log/messages:

That seems very un-Linuxy of Debian to me! You can't even try that, and go back if it does not help?

As the game is only supported on Ubuntu 18 or later, I don't think there's a lot else we can do, I'm sorry.
