1. Killing enemies in challenge mode sometimes doesn't give you score.
For example, killing bomb carriers (not green ones) with arcane fire beam. Or by creating arcane novas with enemy beams. Also you don't gain score If you have killed enemy using force prism. Interesting fact - kills using force prism award you score if you killed enemy by creating nova that kills the prism, if the prism is alive no score gained.
(By the way you can do ridiculous things with prisms, best thing I have ever seen).
Killing summoned minions do give you score.

I've noticed that if you enhance your weapon with Shield + any number of Rocks, and strike, you will be damaged by the rock shields that come out. However, if you enhance your weapon with Shield + any number of rocks + any other valid element, and strike, you won't be damaged by the rock shields that come out.
