Just a weird bit here...

After getting the technology to build the moneylenders in any particular province, it appears (as do other unbuilt buildings) in red in the construction screen, when I don't have money to build it.

The weird part is that sometimes - not always, and not in any predictable pattern, sometimes even varying from one province to another - it does not go green when I *do* have the money for it. I've only noticed this with moneylender buildings...

Is there some restriction on building them that isn't listed in the tooltip?

It has a cost in piety as well. When it is red when you have sufficient gold, is your piety very low or negative?

Building them might actually be sort of a good idea, at least when you're playing Byzantium...because sooner or later, they get "built" anyway for free, but with a higher piety cost..

So were you having enough piety or not ?

It's usually when I have low piety, but I have had cases where the game was paused and the ability to build or not varied from one province to another...

Actually, the piety cost is higher if you build them manually. Event cost is 25 and manual cost is 50.

You're absolutely right...can't quite figure out why I thought the opposite was true.

That's good to know (and here I was thinking that I couldn't build moneylenders because I'd already built churches and/or monasteries in the province).
