Just bought the game through steam. Started up, starts up fine, I get to the setup screen, playing as humans. I click on edit (the humans), then click on xenophobic, and it CTDs. Half the time I get a C++ runtime error popup, the other times it just crashes. I assume its just about to popup a menu to let me choose which traits the race has when this happens.

Attaching my DX-diag. Also I have verified the cache, I also tried deleting the folder in my/docs. Playing on windows 10 64 bit, this is a brand new system, but I have been playing EU4 and CK2 on it without any problems. Could it be that I need to download C++ libraries? I have checked, and my windows is totally up to date also.

Please go to this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\_CommonRedist\
Go down into each of the three folders under there, and run each of the .exe files - there are 4 all told.

Please the answer in German to.
I use Win7 64

Crash at launch, no launcher

Runtime Error

Program: ...(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\stellaris.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way.

Ok, so I solved this sort of! I just didn't click on that icon again, and the game runs ok. I didn't realize it because at that time, I had just bought the game, but that icon wasn't a button, and I didn't need to click on it. Anyway it should be fixed but at least it isn't a game breaker. thank you.

Going to translate his Answer into german. Hope the Mods and stuff are allright with that

Er sagte, dass du in den \Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\_CommonRedist\ Ordner sollst. Dort findest du drei Unterordner und in allen dreien ist eine .exe Datei. Diese drei ausführen.. und danach nochmal probieren
