Hi guys, wondering if anybody can help me. I am experiencing crashes to desktop with bug reporter code in the thread title. Never had issues with CK3 in the past and it seems to be happening more so when speed is turned up and/or while at war although I could be wrong and the game stutters slightly before crashing. So far ive disabled all overlays, allocated max memory to C drive, reinstalled and started a new campaign which reduced the number of crashes from every 10 mins to every hour or 2, ive updated my drivers, verified the game, turned off full screen optimisation and ran as admin.

Good ol' segfault. You mention that you reinstalled the game so this might not matter, but I'd try verifying the integrity of your game files through steam. Beyond that, this site may have useful info for you, or someone more knowledgeable about windows will hopefully come along.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .

From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt

@AndrewT Yes, I've tried all the things you mentioned. here are the logs although there is no "exceptions" in the logs folder.

Hello,

I am having literally the exact same error. I've already tried everything OP tried, plus I also tried to reinstall the latest Windows Update, which allowed me to play for much longer but it still crashed eventually. Originally, I was playing on version 1.15.0 when I had my first crash, though the error at that time was actually a different one than the one I am having now. I play with the After the End mod which hasn't been updated for 1.15, so I rolled back to 1.14.3 and started a new campaign, and now I get the current error.

One thing that I noticed today is that if I try to click the "[number] more options" of the context menu of another character (i.e. to see the menu that shows the seduce option), I can reliably reproduce the crash. (Cadminius, I wonder if you could try to see if doing the same thing to see if you can reliably reproduce this behavior too).

Here is the error that I ORIGINALLY got:

Application: Crusader Kings III

edit: I just wanted to add that I gave up and literally reset Windows and this crash still persists.

edit 2: i finally found the source of this error in my case; the improved barbershop was causing it somehow. make sure all of your mods are the right version.

The same error code does not necessarily mean the same cause. Please make your own thread, and supply all needed info there, thanks. For preference attach log files rather than pasting in their contents.

@AndrewT Yes, I've tried all the things you mentioned. here are the logs although there is no "exceptions" in the logs folder.

I see you have Windows 11 24H2; this can be the cause of this problem, it seems to affect this game particularly for some reason.

it is a severely broken Windows update that has caused problems across the whole gaming - indeed computer - industry.

Some users found relief in various ways:

A user has come up with another possible workaround

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/24h2-w11-update-issue-found-no-more-crashes.1728373/

Some affected users have definitely seen that help them with this issue. I'd suggest you look at this step first!

And, switch the game's renderer to Vulkan on the launcher-game settings tab.

The CK3 devs are aware of the issue of course, but I don't know whether it is thought possible to change the game to work around the Windows 11 bugs.

Sorry about that!
