So, I've been noticing that people are complaining about lack of a Tutorial system, or that the Hints are vague and Text on screen is too tiny to read. I feel your pain people.

I've typed up a short Tutorial (of sorts) for any newcomers to the Console version of this game.

Seasoned Pros this is your exit lol. Or hey feel free to chime in! Any helpful tips would be appreciated!

So to begin with; a few tips I've learned along the way, stumbling toward achieving a thriving Marstropolis!

So first things first. Getting to grips with the Controls;

Once you start up the game it is Advised you select the Easy Start option. (For getting to grips with the mechanics of this Gem of a game!)

You'd start out with (Game-Chosen Faction) and your Commander Profile- Rocket Scientist (Very preferable in most situations!)

Or if you went the New Game route. Just leave all the options as they are. You can tweak it to your desire ofc, but for purpose of this tutorial, just leave it be.

Once you select Easy Start, you'll be presented with a Pop-up window Welcoming you to Mars.

Now, survey the land,
Hint: You are provided with Orbital Probes to deploy and scan surfaces of the Marian landscapes. This is very handy if you're testing to find a Water Tile resource! As you might have noticed, they're kinda sparse..

To deploy an Orbital Prone for instant scan. Simply highlight a plateau of your choose (Must be Unexplored) and then press X (Square for Sony) to deploy the probe. It will automatically scan, then present you with its findings. Sometimes Zero results will happen! This is normal. Just keep scanning. Once you run out of Orbital Probes (can be ordered again via the Resupply option under Game Menu panel)
If successful. A woman's voice can be heard saying "Scan Complete. Resource Found" Or "Anomaly Found" etc.
To scan manually (takes a Sol or two) simply highlighting the plateau again, this time press Y(Triangle) to scan it yourself. You can queue up to 4 scans successfully. It takes a while though. .Be patient lol.

Now, find a nice place to plop your Rocket. Complete with all the necessities needed to begin your journey toward Surviving the harsh elements.

Speaking of Elements, you should make sure you start near a Good amount of resources spawns, such as Water. Concrete and Metal. (this is where the Orbital Probes come into play!)

Now. Here you are in your nice bit of flat land near some rich elements, first thing to do is to plonk down the Rocket and you'll notice that little Drones start to ascend the platform.

This is where you need to place a (Prefab) Hub. Think of Prefabs as a sort of Instant Build Starter Kit to help you along (These 'Starter Kits' are free to begin with, but will Cost more when you Order through (re)Supply via the Game Menu *LT/L2 button) - This will come in very handy for longer range travel to get more resources and extend your initial reach parameters.

You can find the Prefabs and other items on the Build Menu by pressing (Y) on Xbox. Or Triangle on PS4. (You can also access this by pressing LT/L2 buttons respectively)

After you press the Build Menu button. You'll notice a bunch of sub-menu panels appear on the UI bar.
These are;
  • Infrastructure
  • Power
  • Production
  • Life Support (very important for Colonist survival!)
What you need to do is locate Hub in Infrastructure by pressing L1/R1 and then simply scrolling along with either d-pad or analog sticks. Easy. In order to unload the on-board resources,
  • Place down a Universal Depot (Found in Storages tab via Build Menu. Icon looks like 3 boxes)
  • Drones will automatically go inside the Rocket and begin to unload the various resources into their respective blocks upon the Universe Depot.
After you plonk down a HUB. Make sure its connected to a power supply, so again press Build Menu button (Y/Triangle) and from there press L1/R1 to switch over to the Power sub-menu. Locate *Power Cables * second to last on the right hand side.

Power Cables are very essential to powering up and pairing with a Power supply such as Solar and Wind Turbines.

Place the power cable and drag it along to the required length you desire. Place down a Solar Panel (Make sure there is Metal resources available in the area, as it needs those to build the Solar Panel!) Drones will automatically go and harvest the necessary materials needed to complete construction. Provided that the RC Rover is still within in reach of the HUB. You can roam as far as 8 Hexes.

After constructing that, it's simple as connecting the cable with the Hub (Note: it automatically creates a connection point between the cable and the Hub or any other building)

From there, you'll need to make sure that you're gathering enough Metal resources as possible for the next phase (You can also speed things up by using a Transporter vehicle provided in the rocket!)

Now you'll need to build a Water Extracter (By accessing the Build Menu and it is located under Life Support).. First and foremost find a Water Resource tile (Looks like a water droplet) on the map, make sure it's at least Average. If it's lower, it deplete fairly quickly, later on down the line, and you'd be hard pressed to find other water resources, as they cam be quite rare! (Unless you research Deep Water Extraction. Later on in game!)

Let's just stick with simple Water Extracting for now,
Place down the water extractor near to or upon the water droplet resource tile. From there you need to connect this to the cable power supply point. And make sure you also connect with a Pipe. It's located in same sub-menu as water extractor.

Now, merge the Pipe to the Extractor, and the sequence will complete. You also need a Water Tower to store the water in. It will Not operate unless it has a water tank to connect with! Same goes for Oxygen. - - This is called a Moxie in game.

Moxie is VITAL for survival of your colonists. Make sure you have at least two, I also connect two of each Oxygen Tank to make sure I have enough surplus Oxygen handy should I need it!

Next is to place down a Concrete Extractor! This will be essential for building more advanced applications, and also if you want a Wind Turbine generator! - - Locate the Concrete Extractor in Infrastructure panel. It's also a good idea to have a Concrete Depot (or two) nearby to the Concrete Extractor. This is located in the Storages tab, on Build Menu. It's the 5th Icon that looks like 3 Boxes.

Universal Depot, Metal, Concrete etc.

Hint: The Concrete tiles look like a Pyramid in White. You can also see the 'soil' is a different colour to the surrounding areas. This indicates it has Sulfur rich deposits. - Perfect for extracting!

Hint: You would be advised to also place down a Dumping Site to offload any debris that will clog up your Extractor. Once it's full, it will refuse to operate and have a Blinking Highlighted icon floating above it, indicating that it cannot complete operations! - Personally I'd place down a few of those for good measure. I normally place them just outside the Concrete tile surface.

Remember to create a power point, and connect with a Solar Panel. These are vital. Next you can store the harvested Concrete that Drones automatically pick up, in a Depot.

That's about the basics. After you get to this point, it's relatively a Trial and error thing. It's all about discovering your own flow! =)

Hope some of these tips have been handy. If you need any other help, I'd be happy to share more tips!
I've made it to Sol 111 (Even with the bugs and lags!) and I am still going strong.

Later on in game you'll be presented with many challenging, but rewarding 'Mystery' paths to take. You don't have to (i.e Just don't Analyse the Alien looking symbols)
- but once you Start the storyline. It can't really be altered. And you have to see it through (through better or Worse in my case) to fruition.. Or ruin. Lol
