  • Hearts of Iron Anthology
Ok, so my problem is rather strange, but I've been searching around and haven't found any solutions yet, so I'm making this thread:

hearts of iron has a file called settings.cfg, where you can modify the languages and turn music on/off. My anthology package is german, because I reside in Germany, however, I prefer english. Whenever I change the language to english and run the game, all the fields which would normally have text in them are blank. This isn't a problem with vanilla, but several mods are in english exclusively, which means that there's a lot of confusion, due to multiple languages or, in case of the fallout mod, blank fields, because the mods HAS to be run in english (if I change it to german I lose all the english text which is basically 90% of the text), however, doing that, once again, means that every non scripted event produces a blank information box and that makes monitoring actions of other nations quite... difficult and also quite annoying.

Is there a way to solve it and if yes, could someone please explain it to me?

Thanks in advance,
dev

Edit: I'm running version 1.2 of the game, because the mod specifically requires that, but I encountered the same problem with the pre patched version.

Possibly one way to solve this would be for you to somehow obtain all the files that normally reside in the \config directory of the English version of the game.
For example, files like event_text.csv, text.csv, messages.csv, etc.

It sounds to me as if you already know that these files store the translations, except for the German version which apparently only has the German and blank values for other languages (omits them).

You might look for a HOI2 Demo download somewhere; possibly it would supply you with the English version of these \config files. I know that some mods do supply their own versions of these files, for example MOD34 - but that is only in English and Spanish, and may not work with the vanilla version of the game (you'd be stuck playing only MOD34).

I have the exact same problem. Why is it that the changing of the language (with settings.cfg) seems to work in every version with the exception of the anthology packet?
I think that the problem may be that some issues of the HOI Anthology are 'localized' version releases. If you have a English version release, as I do, there is no problem with language translations - all are included and changing the settings.cfg file works.

But if you have the German version release (or some 'localized' subset of it) then the only language translation available to you is German... because the other languages are all blank in the various files that are used to determine the language text. Attempts to change the settings.cfg file to some language other than German dont work, the text is all blank -- the other translations are missing.

At least, this is what I think the problem is. If your own language is German you'd be better off getting the English version of the game and making a manual change to the settings.cfg to switch the language text to German :( then at least you could be sure that you'd be able to switch to any of the supported languages if you wanted to.
