Cannot get HOI2-DD-Arma to Run on Vista

I am unable to run Armageddon 1.3 beta 2 on my new laptop. I was hoping that somebody could please help me out.

When the game launches, it shows the opening movie with the cave paintings and rain, and then the screen changes to the map of North America with Armageddon written across the top. During all this time, the theme song movie is playing. So far, so good. Then the loading continues up to the point where it says "Loading Globals" and all of a sudden I get a CTD.

I got this same problem both with a fresh install off the CD (plus extracting the latest patches off the internet) and also when I used a USB stick to copy paste the whole game from my three year old computer (where the game ran just fine on XP) onto my new computer.

Is this a Vista issue? If so, how can I work around it?

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz
4 MB RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver

It most certainly is a Vista issue, though many Vista users run the game just fine. Did you install it into Program Files? If so, try using a different directory. Did you try running the unpatched game? That way you could verify whether it's the patch which makes things bad.

General advise:
- Start HoI2.exe in XP compatibility mode (right-click the exe and look under properties, I think).
- Try changing the screen resolution to 800x600 before starting the game.
- Start the game in windowed mode.
