Hoping someone can help me out here...
i just purchased a copy of Europa Universalis II in SIngapore - it is an English version. When I run the install I am confronted with only two options 1) Typical Install 2) Custom install.

When I select a Custom Install the next window where you would normally select items to install appears but it is entirely blank inside the window. There are no items to select. It will let me hit next to continue and then the install will go through however when I try to run the game I get a blank screen and nothing else. When I select Typical Install the install goes through.

Regardless of which install I select the game will not start and comes up as a black screen with a "EUII non responding" in the task manager. Also when I try to apply either the UK or NA patch it says that I do not have EUII installed

I am running Win2000 on a Dell Latitude with latest DirectX and OS updates.

Help!

My initial impression is that you've been duped with a pirated copy, but you never know...but I have no idea which version you might have. From what you describe it won't be the SF NA version but I suppose that it could be the SF Ausie edition. Easiest way to find out....what are the logos on the CD? (it could be several)

Make sure you're installing the game to either the C:\ or D:\ drive and that your CD is either a D:\ or E:\ letter assignment.

For now, let's concentrate on getting the game to work before we patch it, so on this and future qustions I'll assume you're simply running the 1.00 version. Once we get that running, we'll figure out the patch and go from there.

try to rename the AVI folder under your EU2 directory to AVI_OLD.
I don't know about the install, but the symptoms you descrive while trying to play are similar.

Pretty sure it is a legit copy - Singapore doesn't allow pirates and it costed enough to be legit at a good store. The CD says Paradox entertainment and Typhoon games with a copyright Typhoon Games (HK) written on it.

I have renamed the AVI direct (thought I had tried this already - my apologies..) to old_avi and it works. The game now runs.

By the way, my version is 1.04 up in the top left corner. I still cannot patch it up to 1.06 - any ideas?

Ah...that's the Asian Typhoon publisher version you have then. Definitely legit, but....

Typhoon has now released a 1.06 patch but it can only be downloaded from their website and is not mirrored on Paradox's server. Further, you must register with them online (takes about 1 minute) to access their support patch download page.

Go to this site and click the support tab. At the top, where it tells you that you have to register to access patches, click "register", fill out the form, and then it will take you directly to the patch.

Enjoy. :)
