Cannot Register Games

Hello, I recently brought a few Paradox games during the steam sale and have been having huge trouble registering the games.
I want to download the EU3 beta patch, and despite having managed to register both Divine Wind and Heir to the Throne I apparently do not have access to the download for the patch. This is because the system does not seem to count the CD key as valid. I get the same problem when trying to register Mount & Blade Warband.

I would be very grateful if anyone could explain to me where I'm going wrong (and why the registering system is so bloody archaic)
