After the catastrophic failure of my editor-created modification, I decided it would be best to completely uninstall Doomsday, to get rid of any of the modified files. Unfortunately, the uninstall wizard gives me this message a few seconds into the process:

Component Tansfer Error
File Group:
File:
Error: Catastrophic failure

And then the Wizard closes.

When trying a manual uninstall, (dump all Doomsday files into the recycle bin) I recieve this error message:

Cannot delete Doomsday: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Any help on this would be appreciated. :(

I had a similar problem- there were numerous files I could not uninstall, so I deleted the ones I could and reinstalled it under a different directory (I'm not sure if this will work). For a while afterwards I had my program and then the defective file. Later, I went back and for some reason deleting the thing as a whole didn't work but deleting individual files did, so now I have just the one doomsday installed but its under Paradox Entertainment instead of Paradox Interactive.

Sorry, but DD is designed to last

More seriously.I cannot really help you with this problem but you should contact Paradox team.

Hah-Hah. Very funny. I'm just waiting for Castellon to come up and give me advice on this, or tell me to e-mail the Paradox staff. Until then, I guess I can't play Doomsday...*Begins to whimper*

Bring up the windows taskmanager and check that no Doomsday processes are running.
Close them if they are.
Otherwise, use Explorer to check the file permissions of all files are NOT set to ReadOnly. To do this go to the Doomsday folder and right-click on it. Choose properties from the menu and check that there is no tick on the FILE ATTRIBUTES.
Now try deleting the folder.

If this doesnt work. Either restart the PC and delete the game folder, or go for starting WINDOWS in SAFEMODE and then deleting the game folder.

Finally, start REGEDIT and make sure there are no references to DOOMSDAY in the registry.

I have not done any of the above, for Doomsday, but I have done this for HOI a few times, so the procedure shouldnt be to different.

Ah, yes, thanks 2Coats. That worked.

There is a sticky thread on how to manually uninstall.
