It says: "Can't connect to address Xxx.xxx.xx.xx" where X are respective numbers. When trying to play HOI2 on Multiplayer, I have all ports open. So what more should be done to fix it? Provider says that it seems no response from server comes to me, while I do have exiting traffic.

All MP related stuff goes in the MP forum please.

I'm having the same problem. Not sure why. I connected via Valknet to play EU1/EU2/HOI 1 just fine in the past.

Friend of mine has the issue as well.

I have Symantec security running, but nothing else that might block a connection. All ports open.

Your or the hosts ports are not opened correctly, that is the most common cause of that error. There is a thread somewhere that tells you which to open and how.

Maybee some basic will help..
- are u sure you have the password set correct when try to join?
- are u playing with same 'enhancement'/patch as host?
Does any of the other players having problem to join host or is it only you?

-There is no password.
-yes
-Only me. Does my router needs to be configured like in that sticky or just disabled firewall/all open ports is good enough? My ISP said that traffic is going out but server on other side is not responding.

Hmmm maybee we should begin to start one thread that could be label MP Problem for HoI 2 - read this? cause i got a feeling more people have connection problem. Please correct me if i'm wrong about this..

1) HoI 2 need some ports to be opened. But only while you in VNet and in lobby before game is launched. Differnt channels (common, hoi, etc..) use differnt ports. If someone have a updated list i would be very glad.

2) Once you join or host a game it is DirectX exe that needs to have Internet access. Previously in HoI i used this link to set up a port range:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;240429

But this is a old link and im not sure 100% about latest version DirectX 9.0c.

You only have to allow incomming (server) ports to your dplaysvr.exe if you gonna host.

3) If you read microsofts page about game problem and solloutions, like this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/di...=/windows/directx/productinfo/faq/default.htm

It says about DirectX 9 wich HoI 2 game use:
"DirectXUsers with modern UPnP network routers no longer need to configure them for DirectPlay, because DirectPlay will open and close the multiplayer gaming ports as needed."

So no need to portforward manually on a router with updated drivers for DirectX 9 i guess then.

Some firewall software still needs you to manually open up ports though.

4) Here is also some information if you have connection problems with windows XP and service pack 2:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842242

I would be very gratefull of some feedback from you and others how u solve upcomming connection problem. So we can solve this once and for all.

Cheers,
Tangens

Ahhh and we have another one...

- maybee the game u try to join allready has open a scenario file (save file) that only allow a certain number of players allowed?

Thanks, I'll try this stuff this evening if there will be anyone in Vnet.
Last time when I tried to host test player also couldn't join. Will read those links and report later.

Goody.

Reinstalled Windows now work correctly and I can play MP.
Game sucked yesterday, but then again I got to test stability/speed/ all other things. And there sure will be better games.

hi

i have the same prob. but somteime it works.

I really dont now why.

I have forwarded all ports i have found in the routersetupSticky.

But it doesnt work.
it doesnt work without firewall and a direct connection without a router too.

i have reinstalled the game and tried everything. with patch, without patches.

It only works in LAN.

thats relly strange, because last week all runs fine...

No virus, o spywhere found with kaspersky antivirus.

if hav disabled the viruskiller too.

when i use the firewall i can see that the game find the distance server and communicate with him, but i get the errormessage: no gamehost found on the ip.

???????!?
