Cant go beyond "Start" before crashing

Hi there.

Playing HoI2: DD for some time, then took a break for 4 months before I tonight wanted to play again. I have Vista and it worked fine before, so I start the game thinking that there should not ba any problem.

Problem is that I cant start any game. Not savegames, start new games or even just getting into a game. It crashes to desktop with the Vista "the program does not work"-message.

Savegames are in 1,3 as are newest version of the game.

So, dear community. What is wrong?

Try and renamen avi to avi.old.

I tried to reinstall, still the same.

Then I tried to see if it was with other games - sure enough... Looks like som Windows file, that is gone

Hmm if you have Vista you should not need to install Dirext X as far as I know there is no new version other than the one that came with Vista.

I have yhad the same problem Dirty Harry!!! I have tried everything I can think of and I still can't get it to work! I reinstalled, I put it in a games folder, I have turned things off on my computer, and adjusted other things. Any one that can help me, I would really appriciate it, because I love this game and cannot play it!

How do I change .avi to avi.old? Where is it in the files?

AVi is a folder inside your dd main folder.

It prevents the bink player to start up. Bink player can make the game crash.
