Hi.

I got my copy of EU2 today. I ordered it over the internet. My problem is that the game won't install. Whenever i try to install it it says "setup.inx cannot be found". Is this a common error and can something be done to fix it? Or will i have to send the CD back?

The CD looks fine. No scratches or anything.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook P3 700 Mhz, 128 MB ram and 10 GB harddrive, standard graphic/sound card. The system worked fine with EU1. Using Widows 98 SE.

I have tried to copy setup.inx to the specified folder but it can't be read from the CD.

Damn! That seems like the problem Lucidor and a finnish guy had. Must be something wrong with the Scandinavian copy on some systems. :(

Very strange, cause it installed just fine for me. Maybe there are different versions distributed to different stores and internet retailers? Seems very unlikely to me...

Hey Lord Prime, I could mail you setup.inx if you want and you could try if that works. It's only 155 kb.
Or maybe that's against the copyright rules?

Ok, it seems that some of the CDs are damaged from the plant that produces the Scandinavian (Vision Park) CDs. We have been checking the few copies we got here and we've been lucky, no damaged CDs. I recommend that you contact Vision Park's support about this.

I've made the file available for download from our site as a temp solution: http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Thanks for uploading the file but it still wont work. It still says "setup.inx cannot be found". I placed it in the folder c:/windows/temp/{CA5DD6E1-B508-4922-815D-479E3228B17A} which was the one mentioned in the error message.

It sounds wrong to place it in the temp folder
better under the game or?

Where did you buy the game?

Contacted them both over email, visionparks hotline hasnt open yet, will call them when it does if they dosnt answer my mail before. I have no CDburner here i guess that the Mikrobitti guy burned a new cd and included setup.inx on it.

OBS OBS OBS

There is most like NOTHING wrong with the CDs cause me and my friend bought one each and on my portable i had the same problem but my friend didnt.

I tried his CD and got same problem.

This smells like the classical copyprotection ghost where ppl who buy the game get bigger problems then the once who dont ;)

But does anyone has any suggestions how to solve this and make the game run? I wont buy a new computer and since i am at my dorm until late in februar i wont be able to play the game on the stationary computer back home.

We solved it by sharing the CD and do the installation throu the net.

I would immagine copying the CD to disk and include the setup.inx you guys provide could work cause that file on the CD is impossible to copy.

Even tho im not 100% sure, I would say its the copyprotection that does this.

EU had similar problem but those occured when the game was installed and when you tried to play the game it said no cd was present.

Hehe the irony that the first thing i had to do after buying the game was to look for a crack so i could play the game :)

Tho running w2k i would say that could have been the problem to.

Well once you got it installed you didnt had any problems playing it? I use windows 98 SE so that cant be the problem. Well i guess i have to head over to my closest neigbour and make use of his stationary computer, heh. Thanks.

BTW will there be some kind of an update so the cds can be used with portable computers?

It seems like it is a compatibility issue with CD readers and the copy protection. Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloadable setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.

I hope this will help!

Ok got it working now. However due to my partitions on the disk i was only allowed to install "typical" because the installer seemed to only let me install the game at C: where i only have windows so it wasnt loaded with free space. But i guess it isnt that much slower running on typical install rather then using full.

Anyway i want to thank you Patric and everyone else that helped me get the game running. It's even better then Eu1, just started at the grand campaign with Duchy of Burgundy.

Now off to the gaming experience, i probably wont quit until late night.

Bye all.

Whoohooo!
Great news!

have fun :)

Lord Prime (and others) --> Ok, some clarification. What we did was to "share" the CD-ROM Drive on of our desktop systems, and then mapped up the shared CD-ROM on the laptop over our LAN. Then we could install the game from the shared CD-ROM on the laptop over the LAN.

One funny side effect with this was that when starting the game, the copyprotection was checking for the original CD over the LAN and off the shared CD-ROM on the desktop system. Hehe, this could be usefull to know for future Network gaming sessions when only one person has the original game and you want to save the hassle of passing around that only CD. ;) No worries of exploits in this case though, me andy my friends all bought copies of EU2 in support of this great game!

Great that you managed to install the game in the end Lord Prime!

...and finally, i managed to get my butt kicked as Poland last night after a 15 hrs network struggle. Damn, damn, it's the last time i'll play Poland! ;)
