Hey...

I have played EU2 many times before, but when I now want to install it again, it tells me that " an installation support file C:\................and so on...... could not be installed."

I have never seen that message before so I'm a bit confused...

Does any of you know what to do??? How can I install the game again...

( It's the original game, and my computer is fast and all that! And I HAVE uninstalled it correctly last time, cause I have searched for old EU2 files and didn't find anything!!! )

HAve you cleaned out the registry?
See details on that here:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1101930&postcount=4

Other than that, it sounds like a problem with install shield.
Give me the complete error message and I can direct you further.

I never come to the REAL installation, but under the very first loading sequence it say: " An installation support file 'C:\DOCUME~1\Ejer\LOKALE~1\Temp\{CA5DD6E1-B508-4922-815D-479E3228B17A}\setup.inx' could not be installed."

I have searched the whole system after even the smallest part of older EU2 files, but none were found...

I had this problem once, for me it was the install wizard. It had been corrupted by a virus, I didn't know how to fix it so i just re-installed windows

Well, I have scanned my system for virus, but there didn't seem to be any!

Check out http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1101919#post1101919 , "Scandinavian patch installation problem".

It says patch but it applies to the first install as well.
Funny that you did not have the problem when you installed it before, that is why I thought you may have left over stuff on your system.

Well, now I have tried to download the patch thing... But still I doen't know what to do with the setup.inx file... Where should I put it???

Scandinavian patch installation problem

FIX Part 1: originally posted by Patric
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.

Patric

The part you asked about is this part

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Well, I just first understood it!
I just tried it, and it works!!!
Lovely :D :D
Thanks! It was a big help...

I have read the thread, and I have tried to copy the files from the Cdrom to my hd. But when I have copied all the files over to the machine, and downloaded the setup-file from the web into the same catalogue, I try to start the install again. But the saME error message appears again. And Im not sure what Im doing wrong. If anyone will bother to explain to me in detail how to make this manual copying and installment, I would be sooo happy :)

Okay you copied the whole CD except the .vpp files to the HD.
Then you downloaded the new setup file.
Then you put that setup file in the EU2 folder.
Then you double clicked on that file to run it?

I have the exact same problem as th two others in this thread. The only difference is that i cannot find this file setup.inx anywhere on the www. The link to the paradox site provided in the thread does not work. What am i going to do? Can anyone send me this file perhaps or are there any other way to solve this problem?
PLEASE help me out here!

Look in the sticky thread named "useful files and sites"
THe last entry in there should have a link that works for you.
