But when he reports back after trying would be more informative, especially since scratches may not interfere with the operation of the disk at all. Tring to copy it would sort of indicate this better.

Copy everything over, then try taking one of the other songs, and make a copy of it. Then rename the copy to the name of the file that is dammaged. Then install it from the Harddrive.
