Can't load the game after reinstalling

I accidently removed the game form my computer, but quickly wanted to install it again. Before I removed it it worked quite nicely with patches and all.

Then I put in the CD to install it, when I cliked the icon though it wouldn't install it but asked me to go to "control panel". I went into the CD via "my computer" and launched it form there and now it installed itself quite nicely. I then tried to start it just to chech it out before I patched it. And then the problems started.

I first got the normal scene where you can choose play, uninstall and quit. I choose "play" and the scene went black. I waited and waited some more, but nothing happend. the only thing I culd do to go out was to use CTRL, ALT and DELETE. I see it says the game is not responding. I click it off, get a window error message and THEN the game starts. I get the "dedicated to our EU2 fans" and the elephant cenematic. Then it's aborted. I try to reinstall it, but get the same resulsts.

I figure then I just try to patch it, I got the patch downloaded on my computer from the last time I installed it. After a few seconds I get the message that EU2 is not installed on my computer and patching is aborted???

Anyone know what is wrong? It used to work perfectly, I installed it from the same disk on the same computer with the same system just a few months ago(I lost my inital game so I ordered this one quite recently). If anyone can tell me how to fix this I would be very greatfull.

Edit: I tried to install it on my parents laptop and it worked just fine there so it has to be somethign about my machine, butI can't remember doign anything since the last time I played

Nvm, I just relised the guy in the post below had the exact same problem and the solution in there solved my problem too

Ok I did as suggested in post 8 in this thread: http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344551
and was very happy when it seemed to work. However, happy as I was to finally play the game again I forgot to patch it. I just discovered and tried to patch it. It didn't work. It still says "EU2 is not installed, patching aborted" So currently I'm playing on patch 1.02.

I would really like to upgrade my game to one of the newer patches. Do you know how I can fix it?

That usually means the EU2 install process failed to update your PC's registry while installing, for some reason. All you can do is uninstall EU2, clean up the directory and registry of any mention of EU2, and install from fresh.

Last time I deleted all the traces I could find of the game before reinstalling. I still couldn't install it normally, but had to go in via "my computer" to get it to install.

How do I clean up the directory and registry of EU2? English isn't my first language so I don't even know what those 2 things are.

I did this:
The registy is your PC's list of installed programs and such. Go to start and press run. Now type

regedit

now the registry will open.

as someone suggested, but I didn't understand a thing about what to do with it.

OK, don't touch the registry if you don't know what it is. So it seems your real problem is you can't use the proper install process, and that explains why the registry is not automatically updated and so the patch can't find the program.

Why can't you install EU2 normally? What goes wrong exactly? Any errors or messages?

The error when I try to install it is that it just stops very early (before you see any & or anything) and tell me to go to "kontrollpanel"I dont' know the english word, but it's the option on the start menu where you open up the side where you change all options. Both for mouse, internett, sounds, you can install and remove things form there and so on. It worked nice when I installed it via going in via "my computer" and start it from there though.

I also managed to find a 1.08 patch that worked So now I'm happy. I have no ide why that one worked and not the other one, but atleast now I can play the game without all the bugs and annoying things that was in the 1.02 version.
