Yes like topic says, I cant push either of these buttons in any where(Lan, Internet or Valkyrienet). I mean you can click them but nothing happens. There doesnt come any error message or anything.

So is there any solution for this?

Also to say, I have tried this out on my other computer, and HoI 2 worked fine with it(after some configureing in box).
I have the same problem in other paradox games too, like in HoI, Crusader Kings and in Europa Universalis 2.
So I think its about network/system that these games uses to play in MP.

Would really appreciate some help on this one. ;)

I'm having this problem too. I was playing last night (and for a week or so previous)...no problem. I finished the game, installed windows sp 2 and went to bed. Today I click the host button (which i always am) (in valkyrie net) and it pops up the password screen. I put in the password the screen freezes, and then goes back like nothing happened. I never see the screen where you select scenarios.

I tried to join a friend's game, wouldn't let me, said that that ip address didn't exist. I tried to host using internet, I click on host and it just sits there.

So i uninstalled windows sp2 and tried again, no joy. I did a full uninstall of HOI2 and reinstalled, still the same results. The single player works fine. Its just the multiplayer I'm having trouble with.

This is running hoi 1.01 by the way

I forgot to add that I do have a firewall and i tried it with the firewall disabled and had the exact same result

Did you authorise the Hoi2.exe in your software firewall (integrated into XP SP2 and active by default) to allow it to act as both host and client? If not, then the game cannot go onto your internet connection and cannot host or join any game.

This happened to a friend of mine after installing Port Royale 2. Try uninstalling that or any other game you might recently have installed. Might be some technology there that's incompatible with normal mp.

Thanks a lot - you're my friend too eventhough you are planning to nuke me! :)

Well, the actual problem was that PR2 had messed up my DirectX and only made a partial update.

To verify, run your DXdiags and check the tab for TCP/IP ~ whatever the tab for communication is called.

I had an errormessage there (version conflict) which was alleviated by upgrading DX with the latest version available from Microsoft (9.0c AFAIR).

That does not necessarily mean there is nothing wrong with your directX installation. I've had a bad experience with this myself. Direct3D turned out to be FUBAR after months of working correctly. Not a single Direct3D was able to start anymore. Direct2D games (like HoI, EU2, HoI2, CK, Vicky) worked flawlessly, oddly enough.

Ran DxDiag multiple times: no errors. Ran DxSetup multiple times: no improvement. In the end I had to reformat the C: drive and reinstall DirectX from scratch before the problem finally went away.
