I'm assuming that they will be in, but how will they be handled in the CK world? Much the same way as Eu2, or even possibly we will not have them at all? Obviously with the centralization of power the capital became more and more important, until the 19th century when it was the true heart of a realm, however what will be their place is such a decentralized world? Input please. :)

I guess it has to do with "distance from capitol" for calculating tax revenue, loyalty etc.

A quote from sergei found here
... you can move capital and you would probably very much want to do that to (a) be closer to economical center of your realm and have lesser amount of taxes lost on the way (b) be closer to the regions of war to be able to decrease travel time for royal armies.
This quote is 7 months old, so I don't know if it is still implemented. Hope I helped:).

Rock on!

With the royal court moving around, it would be interesting to know whether we can build royal palaces, castles etc. thus giving the city they're in a special status.

Probably elect a summer capital?

Thanks for all the replies guys, very exciting. :)

You could do both. The capital of the German kingdom was at Aachen. But since: 1) the realm was huge, 2) the kings possessed royal lands scattered among the Duchies, and 3) the king needed to constantly project his power from one end to the other to keep the great vassals in line, the German kings were largely itinerant. They and their court would arrive at a royal palace or vassal's city/castle, consume mass amounts of food, drink, and supplies, hold court, and then move on to the next site.

It was tradition that immediately following his coronation, the king would embark on the "royal progress" during which he held at least one Diet in each duchy to order affairs there.

I think England was the same. While London/Westminster (or even Winchester?) was the capital, the king moved about holding court at different sites. I know this was true during the Angevin period, when again, the realm was so vast that the king had to be everywhere at once to keep his men in line.

'Court' sounds better than 'capital' for this time period. Such a thing was very transient. In England, London was by far the dominant place by 1066 and although the king travelled it was always obvious where the political centre of the realm was. The Scots kingdom, otoh, was far less certain. Stirling, Edinburgh, Perth/Scone, any one of these could have ended up the capital.

So, it appears possible to move the capital whenever the player wants, right?

Leuven for sure as capital of the Duchy of Brabant and because "mijn thuis is waar mijn stella staat" "Myhome is where my stella (Artois) is):D

Nice moving capitals, but for moving do you've to pay a certain sum or something? Because I believe it would cost some money to move the court?

It depends. I don't think that there is any question that Constantinople was a capital city in the modern sense of the word.

"minen stall is wah minen bella stoat" (my barn is where my Bella -cow- stands)

which is a parody on an old beer commercial for Stella Artois: "Mijn thuis is waar mijn Stella staat" (My home is where my Stella is)

:p
