I started a GC in EU2 as Denmark, and converted it to Victoria already in 1468. I was then surprised to see that I had a catholic Denmark full of protestants. How come??

And yes, I did use the pop-converter.

PS: Otherwise a great job you've done.

Denmark was catholic in the EU2 savegame? If they have converted the Danish provinces to catholic, then around 70% of the POP's should be catholic, while the rest will be protestant. Is is assumed in the converter, that province religion in EU2 is only the majority religion. So when province religion differ from the historical one only 70% will be of the new religion. The rest will remain of the same religion as the historical one.

My problem really is that the game is converted i 1468 when the whole of Denmark was catholic. Both the people and the nation. That probably was the case because protestantism, wasn't invented at that point in history. So why would all of my population be converted to protestants??

I havn't had much experience with convertion of pre-1819 games, so I don't know how the converter handles them. My guess is if you convert a pre-reformation savegame, then the converter makes all POPs in the areas that historically converted to protestantism into protestants. Perhaps someone else could shead more light on this?

My guess though I haven't touched this tool in a while is that there is some "base population" that is of a specific historical religion regardless of how you've been playing. A fix could be for MontyP to make any game before the Protestantism conversion events to disable a protest base population and make it catholic instead. Once again, this is based on guesses.

actually denmark is protestant in 1468 and netherlands reformed. you just don't see it. it's defined in the way eu2 regulates these things. all protestants are shown as catholic until luther and all reformed as catholics until calvin. check your province.csv file in eu2.

there is nothing wrong with the converter, if you want a catholic denmark, edit your eu2 savegame and add a line to each danish province specifying that its catholic.

edit: try a little experiment. take a future protestant province and convert it to islam, then convert it back to catholicism. i bet it will remain catholic after luther.
