Chance for explorers to reveal provinces?

What's the percent chance for an explorer to unveil coastal provinces? Do different explorers have better or worse "eyesight"?

And if I keep sending Columbus up and down the same stretch of coastline, will he ever reveal any more territory?

I don't know about the first part, but if you keep exploring a coastline, you WILL find more provinces. Just watch out that Colombus doesn't sink from attrition.

The heigher the manouver rating, the better, I think.

And after you reach naval tech lvl 13 "Early Optics" your explorer will always reveal a coastal province while passing next to it. Actually I think that at that time even "normal fleet" does that.

But by then it's too late, all the good provinces will already have been colonized.

But then you'll know what is already there so you can burn, pillage, and plunder with an appropriate army.

Nothing more exciting for me, as Russia, to finally catch up in naval tech and go torching unguarded TPs along North and South America.
