Other Paradox games offer this, why not this one? This approach just make sense for you customers, it is so helpful on EUIV and Stellaris and CK2, don't know about other games as those are the ones of yours I have

Edit: My unmodded prison is totally unplayable since the patch. dirty prison, starving prisoners, no parole hearings, it all worked fine before the patch (I have not bought the new DLC)

I'm having the same problems and I didn't buy the DLC Island Bound either.

Those are PDS games, we write them and the decision is ours. Games that we publish but do not write, like this and CSL, tend not to have that facility I'm afraid - AFAIk it is the decision of each developer studio.
