I'm pretty sure we all know the game were someone whispers a sentence in your ear after which you're trying to remember the sentence while whispering it to someone else. After a couple of people have had someone whispering in their ear the sentence usualy have been changed quite radicaly.
I thought we could have a thread with a game of changing a sentence containing six words. We're only allowed to change two words in the sentence and that way change the sentence just a little bit in every post. After some time the sentence will be completely different. Dependant on how many contribute with their changes this thread can go on for a very long time. I begin with a sentence and then everyone who wants to can make the sentence different by changing two words in it. It could maybe help to quote the one above you.
Rules:
1) We're only allowed to change two words in the sentence.
2) But we can add or withdraw "the" without being counted as a change.
3) Except for "the" the sentence can't have more than six words. But you can of course change a sentence so "the" becomes counted among the six words.
4) We are allowed to add or withdraw a comma, a parantheses or something similar if required necessary.
5) We can change a capital letter (upper case) into a small one (lower case) or the other way round without being counted as a change. The word small can become Small, like in a family name. The reason is that there is no actual changing of the word but only of one letter and of how we use it.
The reason for rule number 2 is that in some languages there are no use of "the" which often is needed in english. If we use "the" we could maybe put it in square brackets to show that it isn't counted as a change.

So the is now counted among the other six words. In such a situation we aren't allowed to transform the, which is counted, into a the which isn't counted.

That kind of change is wrong because the first sentence has six words and the other one has one word added to it, blue, to transform the into not being counted. But as the was part of the six words in the earlier sentence the new sentence now has seven words because blue was added to it.

The words in bold show four words which are the same in both sentences. The words in italics show two words which are changed. The underlined (in italics), inconspicious, is the one which has been added as a seventh word. And (the) is the word which doesn't count and disappears. The idea in this example was to change One into The and transform The into an uncounted word. But as soon as One was changed into The there was no word which isn't counted. And thus inconspicious was added as a seventh word which is against the rules.
