When I change the building style of a district the rest of the residential zones of my city completely collapse. Demand falls, population falls and never picks back up again. Then the entire economy collapses. I broke a city this way.

The district itself does ok, but the entire rest of the city collapses. (Population drops, rest of the economy declines from there). I sped up time, and it never bounced back.

As of now, I can't use the building styles at all, which is frustrating.

I had the same problem but it occurred when I loaded a pre-Green Cities city, and changed the district style of an already existing district.
It didn't happen when I started a new city with Green Cities already installed, but I also decided to set district styles before I start zoning. I'm not sure which different method did the trick. Just a hunch that redeveloping zones mess up some scripts!
