For some time, there has been a downloadable
overlay to allow people with non-English-language
versions of EU1 to convert their installation to
English. Will something like this be made available
for EU2?

My goal is to (a) buy EU2 exactly once, (b) be able
to run it in French on the francophone computer in
the living room (which I share with my francophone
family), but (c) be able to run it in English on my
anglophone PC in my office. After asking around for
months, I've finally verified that UbiSoft weren't
classy enough to ship multilingual CDROMS in France.
If it were EU1, I could anyway buy the French version
and install the English language overlay on my anglophone
machine. But what for EU2?

Please advise.

Balzingo!

most of the text is stored in the file text.csv.

At the moment, you need to get a text.csv from an english version of the game, preferably from the UK version published by UBI Soft, but I suppose any version would do.

I have a beta version so I can't help you (it might work, it might not work, it might be legal, it might not, so I'm not taking any chances :D ). However, if you asked for this file in the thread you started about it in the French forum, I'm sure someone can send you that file. A number of users have the English (North American version) of the game.

All you have to do is to replace your text.csv with the english file.

I'm not sure if it changes the dialog boxes and the tooltips, but the events descriptions and most other text should be in english.

In that case (which is pretty much what I expected)
as the primiary language of play will be English,
I'm more likely to buy an English language edition
(probably the UbiSoft UK release) and overlay the
text.csv file on the francophone machine with the
French language text. I would imagine that should
work just as well as the other way around. Would
anyone at Paradox object to someone with a French
edition providing me with that file?

as long as it is done in private, i.e. not posted on a website, I don't think there would be a problem.

Someone should be able to help you quite easily.
