changing the resolution?

I recently bought a netbook and installed Crusader Kings / Deus Vult on it. My question is, how can I change the resolution to either 1024 x 600 (netbook resolution) or 800 x 600 (a more traditional resolution)?

The game's native 1024 x 768 is too "tall" for the netbook screen and makes it inconvenient to play.

I just tried those values at both 1024 x 600 and 800 x 600 and neither one of them affected the game. Is there something else I need to do?

I suppose the game can't handle resolutions less than 768 in height, as that's probably the height of the control bar.

are there any kind of fan made GUI patches where the control bars have been reskinned/remapped?
