Hi Guys,

I know I'm probably way too early to be asking this but does anyone know or can the development team say what they think the system requirments for CIM 2 will be?

Do you think it would be roughly the same as the original CIM or will the new game have higher system requirments than that?

Sorry if I'm jumping the gun a bit here it's just that at some point I'm hoping to upgrade to a new computer and being able to play both the orginal CIM properly and the new one when released is an important thing for me to think about when I get a chance to get a new computer.

I can play the orginal CIM on my existing computer but I know I'm lucky being able to do that since my existing computer doesn't match the actual requirments so I know when I upgrade I know both the EXisting CIM and the new game will work well.

Thanks for raeding this one guys.

Best wishes

Barkydog :)

Even though CiM 1 wasn't the best coded game in history, I would be surprised if the new game require less. It's really no reason as I see it, since the old requirements is something I think is too old as an reference these days. And it's maybe a year too release also.

I hope they are going to make it better for multi-core processors. That would be a huge improvement.

When CiM1 was released in 2011, my computer was 2 years old. The game is running great.
I don't think that CPU and memory should be any problem, modern computers have better CPUs and more memory than modern games require.
Just make sure that you get a proper graphic card. You don't need anything too fancy, but don't get an Intel integrated card if you want to play anything more advanced that Minesweeper... ;)
This is just a guess work, but judging by the latest games and future releases, I don't think CO will make a huge leap forward with the minimum requirements.

The truth about CiM 1 is that it's a resource hog and it does NOT use multicore. The new Unity engine however will alleviate that - I bet the requirement will be less than they are now.
The unity engine will responsible for the AI also? ;) otherwise the simulation of individual cims might still be CPU consuming and multicore support would be still an important issue...

I cannot imagine any likely situation in which the req specs would be less than CIM1. AI simulation is one of those "expand to fit the available resources" systems where a few improvements can easily eat up any excess resources gained from multicore support.

I'm sorry I'm afraid it's way too early to ask about the system requirements :( I promise we'll keep you updated on this though!

My guess is that given the large mapsize it will be easy to start up and run a small town on most computers, but require a monster computer to run once the city is filling up the map with skyscrapers and commuter lines.

Hi Co_martsu, Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry about asking so early but thank you to yourself and your team for all your hard work on both the existing CIM and the new sequel. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the game as you go along in its development.

I really hope the new game will be released through Gamersgate like you did with CIM1? Since that allowed me to make the move over from steam. I've found Gamersgate works a lot better for me. :)

Don't apologize for asking, I'm the one who's sorry not to be able to answer :) We'll keep you guys updated!

The distribution is purely Paradox business, so they make the choices of the distribution channels in the end.

Hi Bagbuffy,

Sorry I'm late replying I'm normally faster than this when someone posts on a thread.

My pc is a windows desktop with a geforce 9500GT graphics card oddly enough I can still run the first CIM although my processor is only about 1.60GHz

Providng of course I don't run too many routes since thats when problems start.

I'm still hoping to upgade to a new computer at some point although I do hope CIM and the sequel will run ok on the new windows 8 computers as they come out.

Hi Co_martsu,

Thanks again for your reply thanks for taking the time to respond and for being so understanding what what I asked about both the new game and the distribution channels.

I will keep my fingers crossed it is going to be released on Gamersgate so it's easier to get then since Gamersgate is a pretty good system.

Thanks again for your help and also for the hard work you guys put into the development of both CIM and new sequel.

Hi Barkydog through my experience, I too was having issues on both of my Computers with frame rates on large maps or if I had an extensive transport Network.

CPU 1 specs E6600 (Dual Core) 2Gig Ram and 250Gts Gpu

CPU 2 specs 6000+ (Dual Core) 2 Gig Ram and 8800Gts Gpu

I don't think the Gpu where the problem it was more the Dual Core CPU

I upgraded my CPU (just not for CIM) and I couldn't believe how much better CIM is, no more frustration of Frame Rates issues and I can run as many Bus,Metro and trams lines as I wish

I'm now running an I7 2600k (Quad Core) 8 Gig Ram and 570Gtx Gpu

CIM 2 Specs could be lower than the original CIM ,though it is rare that this would happen. I gather an upgrade might be needed. If the budget is tight, or unsure, I would suggest to wait until CO releases the specs so you can make an informed decision if an upgrade is needed. Plus the benefits of waiting for the spec release date is with in 6-12 months the CPU parts or a full system that might be needed, should be cheaper than the prices you see today.

Hi Bagbuffy,

Thanks for your reply. I’m sorry you had trouble with your computers when playing CIM. I think that is the trouble since it seems that sometimes you can find you need a pretty powerful computer once your networks get going.

I remember I first got Cities in motion as a steam disk from one of the game shops near me and it was odd on the steam version I had no problems with running a good size network but then problems started when I would ask the computer to turn off as it would just lock up and freeze and so I had to turn off at the wall socket by turning the power off.

So I set plan B into action by deciding to buy the game again but this time as a digital download from Gamersgate and to be fair I think it mostly did the trick as my computer will run the game as long as my network isn’t too big.

It’s when I get carried away and have a huge network problems might happen such as the time I tried to create my own version of Liverpool and the Merseyside area that I had problems since I was running probably way too many services since I think I was running at least 50 or more bus routes and I think 8 metro lines not to mention the cross river ferry services.

I’m glad you are happy with your upgrade since it’s nice to just sit down and play the game without the worry of thinking is my computer going to suddenly fall over if I start a new bus or metro route?

I’m going to be waiting a while anyway before I upgrade since the new windows 8 operating system is going to be released later this year or at least I think it is.

So my hope is that both the existing CIM and the new sequel will be able to run with the new operating system.

So I’m looking forward to knowing what the system requirements will be. One thing I do sometimes with any pc game I’m interested in is try the demo first and if the demo works then there is a good chance the main game will work.

Plus with the cost of computers these days it’s probably best to wait and get a set up that will last for a good long while rather than jumping in now and regretting it.

I know when I do get a new computer it will probably be an online order since sometimes you get a better deal online since you can find some good gaming computers online that look good with plenty of processor power and a good graphics card so I’m hoping they will be just as good with the new operating system.
