Describe your issue
Can no longer load my city since Tuesday's update

What is your game version?
1.16.1-f2-steam-win

What expansions do you have installed?
After Dark, Snowfall, Natural Disasters, Mass Transit, Green Cities, Parklife, Industries, Campus, Sunset Harbor, Airports

What mods are you using?
Heavily modded city, so much so that it won't load on a vanilla game

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Since Tuesday's update, I have been unable to load my city. I have attached the crash files from my most recent crash and can link to a save if need be. I've attempted to load a backup save which loaded fine before Tuesday and it crashes with that as well. I've unsubscribed from assets to rule out a memory issue. Once again, everything worked fine on Monday. Nothing changed between Monday and Tuesday other than the Paradox Launcher update.

Can you replicate the issue? If yes, please explain how you did it.
Game loads and crashes to the desktop at the end of loading the city.

While we see no explicit memory error, my suspicion is that with over 12,000 subscriptions you've exceeded some internal structure in the game. All those items get loaded in memory all the time, even if not in use in the current city. Try unsubscribing from another 1-2,000 if you can!

There was a Paradox Launcher update on Tuesday that required me to relaunch and that's when my issue began. I also can no longer load a backup save which I had no problems loading prior to that update. My last resort will be to unsubscribe from all my mods and assets and resubscribe one by one, but that will be a long tedious process and I won't want to do it if I'm going to lose my city anyways.

But I understand you can load the game fine - that is, reach the main menu - right? If that's the case, I don't think the launcher update would be the issue

I agree, but since nothing else changed between Monday and Tuesday, I have no idea what else it could be, especially since I can no longer load the save which loaded fine on Monday.

Well, as for the memory thing, the more your city grows, the heavier it becomes for your system. So it might be worth a try unsusbcribing from some assets to see if it loads again or not.

Yeah my last resort is going to be to unsubscribe from everything and only resubscribe to what I need and want, but it's going to take a Saturday's worth of dedication. My asset number is bloated because I have 1200 hours into this city and earlier in its life, I had some assets with associated dependencies that I no longer use. Clearing those out would do me a lot of good. I still don't understand though why the previous save that loaded on Monday will no longer load now. If my city suddenly became too large, my most recent save wouldn't load but I should be able to load the previous one.

@jbc34618,

If you are running Loading Screen Mod Revisited which you should be with that many assets, there is an option "Load enabled assets". If you turn this OFF but leave "Load used assets" ON then it will only load needed assets and significantly reduces resource usage.

It will mean you will only have used assets available but should help with loading your save game.

I've unsubscribed from a bunch of things and my city still will not load. I believe this is probably the end of my city. I'll give it one more shot after the next DLC. Maybe the new version of the game and the subsequent updates of the mods will fix whatever is broken, but I'm not optimistic. Hopefully CS2 handles mods in a way that's a bit more stable, considering how often the game is updated. It's infuriating to lose 9 months of hard work because CO decides to push out an update, but that's not uncommon for CS and is why a lot of people who were into the game early on have stopped playing.

People suffering bugs that update fixes, might disagree ... :D
