I would hope you get to choose if you want to be the insurgency if it is large and organized enough. Looking at it realistically though, I'm guessing we will be confined to just the main claimant on the throne...like how it was with the EU games. Maybe one of the developers will prove me wrong though. :D

How will Civil Wars be modelled?

One way is that two families or heirs have legitimate claims on a throne (or fabricated ones, really, as "legitimate" claims usually were) and that you have to raise an army and win support.

Promise your supporters the positions of every official from the other side they kill to win their loyalty.

That's how the Norwegian master of Civil War, King Sverre Sigurdsson, won the war and established one of the more centralised medieval states in Northern Europe.

An effective way to ensure that the undrlings played active parts of the civil war!

I go for choosing which side myself, i mean, half way through the game it could be fun to deliberatly be the cause of an uprising in your own country :p

And will civil wars be multi-sided, as in, can there be more then 2 sides?

In just guessing, I would think that they would be handled like the War of the Roses Events in EU2.

Please, please don't do it that way! Please? :)

I doubt it will happen that way; AS far as I know the event sysrtem will be more advanced than in EU II, which should make it possible for more advanced events.

Or it could happen the way the Spanish civil war happens in HoI.

The country is split down the middle, and each faction has claims on the entire 'country'

Yeah, with the dukes and lords all supporting one faction or another, you're racing against the other claiment to gain the support of as many of the the dukes as possible so you can become king.

And, wasn't there a civil war in France during the CK timespan? Its the plot behind the old game Castles II: Siege and Conquest

Excellent idea! :)

An interesting idea i just had.

If you happen to loose the war entirely (ie your completely ousted and probably killed or imprionsoned) you can still play but which vastly changed policies that could be set in stone atleast until the next ruler.

If it is a civil war among a dynasty then you end up the head of the dynasy anyway - no matter who wins. If it is one of your non-related barons who revolt and wipe your line out then I guess you lose.:)

If a civil war erupts, say FE when no legitimate heir is present, will you be able to choose sides? Any other times you can?

To clear things out...There will always be legitime heirs, though their claims may have different strength depending of the inheritance system in you realm and who gave birth to them.

It would be possible to choose whom to support yes and anything from a fast crush down on armed pretendents to a full fledging civil war is possible.

I'm imagining situations like e.g. that between Tancred of Lecce and Henry VI over the Sicilian throne 1189-1197... The bastard son with support from the Nobles v.s. the foreigner married to the sister (and de facto heir).

Nice to hear from an official source. It always clears up a lot of confusion.:)

I would hope the player could Choose the loyalists or Rebels. If the Civil war is voer reforms, then I am a Rebel... :D
