I recently had an accident involving wine and my laptop, and now need to replace my computer. I am considering installing linux instead of windows, and the only thing preventing me from ding so is Paradox games. I am playing CK: DV at the moment, so I thought I'd post in this forum.

Has anyone tried to play CK, with or without DV, or any other Paradox game for that matter, in Linux, for instance with Wine or some other emulator?

If it helps, I am leaning towards Ubantu 7.10 at the moment.

Mods: If this is an inappropriate question, or if I have posted in the wrong place, I apoligise in advance for any trouble I have caused.

I'm running all paradox games under Linux with wine.

CK runs perfect, DV will always crash when using the ledger and access the Bridefinder and relation page. Hopeful it will be fixed in the new patch.

EU3 runs, but have problems with the pixelshader2

Edit:

Wine is not an emulator :)

Check out wine appdb: http://appdb.winehq.org/

DV doesn't work in wine for me, but vanilla CK is fine

I'm running CK on ubuntu 7.10 at the moment using wine. CK 1.05 works fine if sound card is turned off in wine, but the game really lags otherwise. I haven't been able to get DV to run, as the game complains about some missing excel file and refuses to load. I'm going to wait for the next versions of wine and DV patch to come out and see if anything changes.
