IIRC, the crusade began in 1098. I believe my army had been in the Jerusalem area for at least a year before receiving a message from the Pope in November of 1101, telling me he was disappointed in me for not joining the crusade. In any event, I ended up with the highest contribution and my beneficiary was granted the Kingdom of Jerusalem title.
I believe I received this message in error. It does take a while to muster my troops and get to the Holy Land from Ireland, but I was there in the thick of it with the rest of the crusader forces well before the Pope sent me this message.
